Really? I'm still using my HUP 2010!
Yes...my wife just got a new PC and I tried to install HUP 2019 and got the message "exceeded number of activations permitted". Hmmm

I've heard of stories about these managed/sub retailers making it hard to unsub and take back control of your account (e.g., renewing through newegg activation). Anyone with any insight on this with amazon? TIA.

Nope, each one gets their own 1TB OneDrive

Call in to Microsoft and they'll help you out. That's what I did.

One of the reviews says this cannot be used to extend a subscription that is not managed by Amazon. I recall hearing the same thing reported whenever an Amazon M365 deal shows up on Slickdeals.
Was thinking the same too though some comments earlier seems to suggest that it's possible, though they also mentioned that the subscription is now managed by Amazon, whatever that means

This is correct.

Don't do it! Amazon hijacks your M365 subscription! You're better off going through Microsoft so any account and billing management is done by, you know, the provider of the service themselves.

I made this same mistake years ago and had to go through Amazon to remove their control over my subscription before I was able to pay and extend my service without going through Amazon.

Ok, so I did it just now. After I activated the subscription on Amazon, it was showing expiry date 1 year from today. When I cancelled the auto renewal, it changed the date to 2024 because I had the subscription till 2023. It's all good and working so I will recommend people to buy it from Amazon even though they may have subscription from Microsoft or Newegg. Only thing is when I go to account.microsoft.com, it shows that subscription is managed by Amazon
This is the "gotcha" that I worried about when considering the offer from Amazon in which Amazon takes over management of your Microsoft 365 (aka, Office 365) subscription. My concern is that once Amazon manages your subscription, you will not be able to take advantages of future discount offers from other retailers.

IMO, this is a TERRIBLE deal because Amazon will hijack your Microsoft account and future renewals will only be available through Amazon. This happened to me and I can no longer renew Office 365 using additional license codes purchased from Newegg. Microsoft support is clueless and even though Amazon refunded my purchase, I still can't get my Microsoft account restored back to Microsoft. Shame on Microsoft, shame on Amazon!

True but Amazon has been providing best discount for years so I am not worried about that

You will have to wait for your subscription to expire and then you can renew it using keys bought from Newegg

Those stories are true. Microsoft allows the reseller — Amazon in this case — to literally hijack your Microsoft account so that you can only renew Office 365 through the reseller. The low price is a "bait and switch."

So…wait until after the sub expires, when up to a terabyte of valuable files is at risk of loss and then hope that the account magically transfers back to Microsoft so it can be renewed in that limited, 30-day window of time?
