If you have to ask then you don't need one lol. I use mine for the following,

1. Charge phone/watch
2. Use the SD ports for cards from my camera
3. Use HDMI to my projectors
4. Connect my external hard drives (NVME and regular 5TB).
5. Use of ethernet port if using it on phone or laptop that doesn't have one (not often use)

As to the price I thinks it's average

If you regularly disconnect your laptop from your workspace or have multiple laptops/devices that use the workspace, you can leave the cables for the power and auxiliary connections attached to the dock and just plug one cable into the laptop(s)/devices when you return to your workstation.

Curious how many projectors there still are in meeting rooms that only support VGA but not HDMI...

this is an okay price, nothing special really, for this assortment of ports.

for those questioning, i use a similar type of hub with my laptop basically as a docking station. it has two usb3.0 on the right-hand (mouse) side so i don't usually use those, left single usb2.0 port has mouse receiver (logitech anywhere mx). hub is connected to back usb 3.1 type c, which is connected to another usb 2.0 hub cooling pad (which has an external blu-ray burner (two type a ports), an external webcam (the built-in one is down by the hinge, which is basically unusable for work calls), and a flash drive), a desktop external, two portable externals, an external touchscreen monitor (hdmi+usb), and another desktop touchscreen monitor (laptop's hdmi plus hub usb port), an external smartcard reader keyboard (for work), plus a 2nd gen echo dot just for the convenience on my desk (since it's microusb and the hub provides enough power), and i think that's it. so that's, two free ports on the laptop, and taking up all four on the usb2.0 hub (losing a 2.0 on the type c hub), plus like all six or whatever on the hub.

wish i could shift everything but the laptop (an evoo lp5) doesn't charge via the type c, sadly hahah. but yeah, i can't really picture anyone needing this much connectivity actually on the go, as the most i would be taking with me would be the blu-ray burner and portable external.

Probably just the VGA port. Otherwise there are many cheaper and smaller ones on Amazon.

Hey thanks, but you can connect most of these things directly to your laptop...
If you regularly disconnect your laptop from your workspace or have multiple laptops/devices that use the workspace, you can leave the cables for the power and auxiliary connections attached to the dock and just plug one cable into the laptop(s)/devices when you return to your workstation.

Plus not all laptops have the ports/connections and even if they do the ports maybe not have the capabilities. This is just a capable dock that allows it for what you've mentioned...phone, laptops, tablets, etc.

took a quick look at my amazon order history and found this one, for $21.24 right now: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09M2T1GR6/

(swaps hdmi for the vga, and a couple more usb3.0 ports for the ethernet)
