if someone just wants to "try" piano, or dabble in electronic music (hooked up to PC), this pretty much works well enough.
monoprice probably sold all of 2 of these, they had this for $160 couple days back, now 127.. wait couple more days.. free with happy meal.
They should at least make a youtube video.

I can understand why a violin might be kind of pricey, since there's a lot more human work that goes into the more expensive models. But an electric piano? It's all circuit boards and interlocking parts. It's electronics, not art. Is the problem the low volume? Few companies competing?

getting the feel of a real piano in a digital one is hard
getting the sound of a real piano is hard
reproducing the sound properly through speakers is hard
research is hard and time intensive
piano makers often make multiple models and must be priced relative to its value to each other

They take up a lot of space and people want to get rid of them.
