scratches chin... I don't think it can get cheaper than this with a stand.. these units are $160 without stand on amazon laugh out loud

if someone just wants to "try" piano, or dabble in electronic music (hooked up to PC), this pretty much works well enough.

monoprice probably sold all of 2 of these, they had this for $160 couple days back, now 127.. wait couple more days.. free with happy meal.

They should at least make a youtube video. Big Grin

There's probably a video out there, but under another generic label. On amazon it's sold under hammzer.

Piano playing in the united states is Drying up fast. Most young people have moved on to video games. /sigh..

Im fighting the good fight, sure my boys have their super computers for games but i have them paint, color and i got a small electronic piano and will get a acoustic guitar this christmas. The problem, maybe its my area, is finding a piano that has built in teaching method, like light up keys or something or a piano teacher in my area.

Can someone explain why nicer electric pianos are so expensive? My wife just spent $600 on an electric piano and it seemed like you could spend more than $1000 if you wanted to.

I can understand why a violin might be kind of pricey, since there's a lot more human work that goes into the more expensive models. But an electric piano? It's all circuit boards and interlocking parts. It's electronics, not art. Is the problem the low volume? Few companies competing?

not an expert, but here are some obvious answers:

getting the feel of a real piano in a digital one is hard
getting the sound of a real piano is hard
reproducing the sound properly through speakers is hard
research is hard and time intensive
piano makers often make multiple models and must be priced relative to its value to each other

I get the idea that it was hard to make the first one, but that's all development costs. Companies are selling the same or very similar models for 10-20 years and the price seems to stay relatively static. It feels a little bit like the graphing calculator market, where TI has been selling the same product for ~$100 for 20 years.

Yes. Companies research to make money.

There are quite a few free acoustic pianos.

They take up a lot of space and people want to get rid of them.

Pay for a tune up.

Didn't read any market research or anything, but from what I can see the electric is in between the cheap keyboard market (curious beginners) and traditional piano market. I only knew one pianist that actually purchased a electric piano. And as soon as she moved in to a larger place, she sold the electric and purchased an upright. The market is smaller so higher the price.

btw this price is pretty good. Don't know about quality
