In my opinion, that are a couple issues with this grill in regard to temperature. One is the hot spot above the burn pot, and the other is how the temp probe on the left side reads the ambient temperature. Neither of them are deal breakers and you can get good results without doing anything to your grill. But the mods will make it easier.

First thing you can do is to not use the large rectangular heat diffuser that sits on your burn pot. In fact, when I reached out to Pit Boss customer service, that was the first thing they suggested. This definitely helped with the difference in temps from left to right.

Next you will notice that in the middle of the grill there is a hot spot, right over the top of the burn pot. Because Pit Boss allows you to sear if you want, this "feature" can cause a hot spot, even if it is closed properly. You can make or buy a heat diffuser/flame tamer that will minimize that hot spot, and it works really well. Otherwise, you can just choose to not put any food in the middle of the grill and risk it.

The last mod that some people do is block the air gap on the left side of the grill, between the drip pan support and the curve of the drip pan. This air gap can cause the temps to fluctuate more than you may want because of the way the hot air flows up the drip pan and right at the temp probe. It doesn't bother me too much, but sometimes I will do the cheap fix by covering this gap with a few layers of aluminum foil. I may or may not upgrade to a more permanent version in the future.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions. I'm still pretty new to this grill and not an expert by any means, but I've done a ton of reading these last couple of months.

WallyWorld in my area is closing out it's little brother for about 100 bucks. It's big enough for a full size brisket and a small pork shoulder or enough butts to feed a small army.

Seems the Phoenix area never gets these close outs like regions that have harsh winters, makes sense but always a bummer

Yeah, this is a good deal. Bought mine for the same price at the beginning of July and I've been pretty happy with it. One of our local stores dropped them down to $200 last week, so you might be able to do even better.

If you are looking for a pellet grill with this large of a main cooking grate, I don't think you will find a better deal. There are a couple of modifications that help smooth out the cooking temps if you are so inclined.

Does it have an issue with cooking temps? What are the mods?

Reviews say there is a noticeable difference in temp between zones (L, R, Center). A few mods here, including addressing the heat consistency issues:

Little bit of a pain to clean out the ashes, but overall been a good grill.

The controller went out on mine, and their customer service shipped me out a new WIFI / Bluetooth controller next day. Fantastic customer service - would buy again.
