Best price I have seen on the DCL045B since it has come out.
Sales stats on this item from Woot seems low as of 11am ET.

Handful of other DeWalt Woot deals, though nothing else seems that great:

The main competition for this is the Milwaukee M12 2125-20 under hood light. Lowest I have seen that go is ~$140ish. The Milwaukee version has been out a long time and DeWalt released their hood light within the past 12 months.

As a hobby mechanic it is tough to justify the cost of these brand name hood lights.

I have the $35 Harbor Freight version which I loved initially. It has less lumen output than the Milwaukee and DeWalt version but at the price point it is hard to beat. Unfortunately the battery run time has quickly diminished on mine over a short period of time (~2 years?)and it has a built-in battery with a wall charger.

I have M12, DeWalt 20v, and DeWalt 12v tools. Going to give this DeWalt light a try mainly because I have more DeWalt batteries and the DeWalt light has most use cases since it fold up and stand on its own.

I was wondering if the DeWalt would be 4x better. I understand the DeWalt is 2x brighter. Seems like a decent deal though. I don't have any experience with a light bar style like this. Just the random task lights with magnetic bases and such.

I hear ya at 4x the price of the harbor freight, is it 4x as good? It is subjective. I think a $99 price point on this light would make it a no brainer for any mechanic and ANY hobby mechanic. Since the main target for this and Milwaukee light is professional mechanics with the needed, dedicated use case, I think this will be the best price we see these go far barring any odd clearance or tool bundle deals.

You don't compare products by price multiples, that would be too simplistic and shallow. Here are the features that makes Dewalt far superior to HF's hood light:
1. 2x lumens.
2. Far superior clamping system.
3. Far superior angle adjustment mechanism, i.e., point the light at different direction.
4. Far superior position adjustment mechanism, i.e., slides the light left and right.
5. Usage of replaceable rechargeable batteries.
6. Far superior build quality.

Would I pay 4x price for these features because it makes it so much easier? Oh yes!

Old fashioned corded light with incandescent and wire hook has worked great for generations. Very inexpensive too.

The craftsman V20 version of this is almost identical to the dewalt. I forget the difference, but it can be had much cheaper. I got one on clearance last year for around $40 and there are many available on the different resale sites. I realize it's a different platform, but the batteries are always on sale as well. Might be a budget way to go.

Agree and not to mention when the battery on the corded one starts to run out of juice. So you get additional batteries that means deeper into the cordless ecosystem and it gets expensive. Don't understand the need to go cordless for everything. There are specific use cases and good to have for professionals but for in home, occasional garage use, wired works great and cheaper too

An old fashioned miter box and handsaw has worked great for generations also, but that did not stop me from buying a cordless miter saw and a miter saw stand. Not everyone has easy outlet access or a desire to mess with corded units, hence the popularity of cordless devices these days.

Damn. They had decent price on combo kits but it's all sold out. Wish I were checking these regularly.

I would be in if it was $50 cheaper. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the yellow brand now and then, but this light it is too much of a niche item for me to pay the premium in this case.

I am in the same boat as you. I love Dewalt stuff but can't convince myself to shell out $135 bucks for a fancy shop light. Was changing my brake yesterday and when the sun went down I was doing the other side. Used my Dewalt utility cordless light and my lighted energizer headband and that worked fine for me.

I don't blame the OP, HF's marketing emails outright bash Dewalt products claiming their "superior" value and durability with skewed comparison charts. Like I'm going to trust a company known for selling low quality tools with jack stands that killed people.
