Axl wrote the lyrics; Slash wrote the guitar parts which is obviously what I was referring to. The Sweet Child and November Rain solos are regularly included on critic and reader-voted "best guitar solos of all time" lists. To say they are iconic is an understatement. Also some of the few music videos on YouTube to have over 1 billion views -- not bad for 30+ year old tunes.

You're factually wrong about the whole "most people under 40" bit -- look at the demographics on who's buying his guitars, merchandising, the age demos of people attending the GN'R shows. Slash is one of the most popular guitar "heroes" out there (and his partnership on the Guitar Hero videogames certainly didn't hurt) and there are STILL young players picking up their first axe because of Slash.

I've been to both GN'R shows and his solo shows and the audience age ranges are extremely diverse. You'll see teenagers, millennials, middle-aged folks, even retirees.

The GN'R reunion tour was the third highest-grossing tour of *all time.* If it were just 40+ year old people interested in Slash/GN'R then these stats just wouldn't exist. You're living under a rock if you think he "wouldn't be on most people's top 20 lists"... he's literally routinely ranked as one of the all-time great guitarists by critics and average Joes. He's one of the few guitarists out there who's truly a household name.

Let us know when you write Sweet Child O' Mine, November Rain or Estranged.

Slash is a huge draw for Gibson. Big enough that they gave him an entire signature line a couple years ago.

It's more likely this color just isn't as popular and this company has excess stock.

I like Slash but he's hardly a virtuoso. I'd bet it's the Slash branding that's losing it's draw a little.
Umm... what does being a virtuoso have to do with anything? Most 'virtuosos' and their signature stuff is incredibly niche in an already small niche and never sells tons. Slash on the other hand while not a virtuoso is a Rockstar which beats a virtuoso any day.

Here's a cool video Gibson just uploaded the other day of Slash going through his entire guitar collection for anyone who wants to geek out: https://youtu.be/Z64Y-pjZw2E

To calm everyone down: The Gibson Slash collection is launching different color schemes for a specific period of time and then replacing it with a new one. So in short, this color scheme seems to be on the discontinued list and will be replaced with another one. I learned this in one of Trogly's Guitar Show videos. Thanks Trogly! …

I'm super tempted by this deal but already have two Epiphone Slash guitars (one of which I was lucky enough to have won during a promo for his latest album!) and I'm not sure if I can justify the price -- even at such a great deal -- since it isn't my first color choice.

I have the Gold Top (2008 model) and November Burst (2021 model) colors in Epiphone, if I were to buy a Gibson, I think the Appetite Burst would be my first choice.

However, the price on this is really a steal as Gibsons retain their value... hard to decide what to do... lol.

No SD pickups? Also where is it made?
All gibson electrics are made in Nashville, TN. The pickups are custom Burstbucker IIs.

I have many Epiphones and other LP copies - Tokai, Edwards, etc. All are excellent guitars.
I just don't think a Gibson is going to be game-changer in terms of my playing (and minimum impact on the tone). And if I want to get a Gibson just for the sake of getting a Gibson, I probably would go for a color other than this one.

Also I don't know why they opt for Burstbucker rather than SD. It just makes it less of a Slash guitar. Compounded with the abysmal color, this guitar doesn't exactly scream Slash to me.

Out of all the guitars I have the Gibson LP is one of the worst, they are just selling their name at this point. I am so tempted to try one of the $100 chinese guitars out there, add on some setup fees or file some frets add some great pickups and I bet they can be just as good or better. If you need to showoff a name to feel better about your skills, go for it.

You know, I noticed the pickup issue on my '21 model Epiphone. It comes with Epiphone's version of the Burstbuckers I believe, and the' 08 Gold Top model has authentic SD Alnico II's and the Gold Top sounds WAY more like signature Slash to my ears. I have more fun playing it. Something about t the sound profile of the Epiphone just sounds a little off by comparison - if I didn't have the direct comparison I may not have noticed, but it's not as crisp as the SD's. So perhaps you are right.

I have 4 real Gibson les pauls: 2 double cut specials with p90s, a tribute and a standard. All of which were bought on clearance or scratch and dent deals. I also have 5 chibson chinese les paul copies. I have the parts to overhaul them for "winter projects". The real Gibsons are far superior. The chibsons are great to bang around and leave thrown on the couch. Maybe after the overhaul they will be gig worthy.

Custom shops are "supposed" to be amazing...

However, MY experience is that Epiphone models trounce Gibson for less cash.

Said every person who never owned Les Paul Standard!

Had this discussion with more than a few people. Usually find out they never owned a LP Standard or Custom and are going along with others that say "my Epiphone, Chibson etc is just as good or better than a Les Paul". NO! It isn't!! Been playing 50 years and have had a number of LP variations including the real thing.

Will say there have been some very good Epiphone LPs just this past year the Signature Alex Lifeson and the 59 are quite good. Where they excel is Bang for the Buck! Yes for what a person spends an Epi is great. Overall playability, tone and sustain etc. The Gibson wins.

Nothing wrong with that, way it should be.

Note. Still would take a Heritage H-150 over the Gibson Les Paul Standard any day. Even though both are priced the same. The Heritage has a number of features that only come on Custom Shop LPs. Build quality is better too.

Cheers.

PS. Recently installed a pair of these Slash Custom Buckers (with Gibson Hardware and CTS pots and bumblebee caps ) on an Epi Custom Black Beauty. Put Gold Covers on them too. Have to admit they are very very good PUPs. Bit more growl than the 60's Standard Burstbuckers yet can be played very clean. Prefer them over the Seymour Duncan Sig Slash 0
PUPs which really surprised me.

They had some available at Stratosphere. Well with the price

Swap out the PUPs and add a Bigsby with the savings and you have a pretty nice axe.

What are your thoughts on this specific Gibson Slash model versus the Slash Epiphones?

I have one of the 2021 Epiphones and am still debating whether to purchase this Gibson or go with a different model. I love Slash but I'm not sure if I'd be better off saving the money for a different model.

I remember my first "big" purchase when I was in high school. A used $300 1993 Wine Red Gibson Les Paul Studio that I swapped the pickups for the SD Alnico II's. Still rocking it today.

These custom shops are playable pieces of art though if you have the disposable bucks!
my first big purchase was a new black 1989 Les Paul Studio from Sam Ash back in 1989 when I was a freshman in college. Paid $400. I still have the guitar. Played it for 10 years then moved to a Korean Samick made 1999 Epiphone Wildkat about 20 years ago and never looked back. The Studio has been in the bag untouched for last 20 years

Got it today, we'll worth it imo. We have 8 other guitars and this is our first Fender.
