Not a good deal, this is an aluminum frame raquet and the lowest quality you can get. Most people would be better off and enjoy the game more with any older composite raquet that may be in your closet, local tennis shop, on Craigslist or that you can find at a grage sale. I agree on the Costco sales, but this racket should be perfectly fine for a beginner if they just want to try out the sport without spending a lot of money. It's not as if the racket is going to fall apart or anything. If someone really wants to get into the game, then they're probably going to want to experiment with different rackets anyway as they begin to improve.
