Before you splurge on a 2022 OLED - do some Google-Fu and and look at updated 2021 OLEDs reviews. Unless you're the early adopter and need new, 2021 OLEDs might be the deal of 2022 (and maybe beyond) especially if you score additional discount of an open box return/refurb. Prime Day price drops for 2021 models were significant and began the fire sale of 2021 inventory as marginally-improved 2022 models hit the shelf. 2022 prices have dropped sure, but so have 2021 prices so the delta is a significant one. Good chance BF discounts for 2022 models will still be premium, and 2021 models will be gone. Opportunity is now if you're looking.
Open Box at local BB is an option if you're careful, but 2021 inventory is drying up FAST (both new and open box). Find one ASAP and enjoy. I've had both the LG C2 77" (2022) and Sony A80J 77" (2021) in the house this month. Both open box. Keeping the 2021 Sony for MUCH less $$. Not even a debate for me. New models just not noticeably brighter (main upgrade claim for 2022). Not worth the huge premium IMHO if you can find 2021 equivalent.
Beware of non "manufacturer approved retailers" and 3rd party online sellers as I have asked LG and BB HQ to confirm any damage (anything more than minor cosmetic damage) will likely void any warranty claim. Ask questions. See it in writing. Return a damaged set. Even with a good one - Many sellers include 90-day vendor warranty, but then you're on your own. Only you can decide if it's worth a $2000+ gamble to save few hundred dollars.
BB OPEN BOX note 1 : My first open box 2022 LG C2 77" was slightly bent along top edge including crease in the frame even though it was noted as "Excellent - no damage". It worked fine. Looked amazing. I contacted seasoned Geek Squad rep at HQ, and she said "bring it back, it's not covered." Beware.
BB OPEN BOX note 2: Picked up a 2021 Sony A80J 77" display model with NO BOX. Yea, I guess open box only means there was once a box. Very-well bubble wrapped. Got it home carefully in a truck and waiting for missing remote to ship before I decide to keep it (it's stuck on vivid setting so I'll wait to dial it in and see how many thousands of hours are on it).
