Rule 1 - something something something calling the store something something
just an fyi, many Walmarts still have the 14.1 i5 16gb ram, 512gb ssd on sale for 250. I snagged one, im watching though incase price decreases, will go and price adjust or do return rebuy @ 150.

read one or two peoples stores had them knocked to 150, but its 250 at all my local stores. I read price drops typically happen first 5 days into month, so if it drops, it'll be possible this week

im very happy with the 14.1 though seems solid, touchpad is nice enough, speakers absolutely suk balls. but its snappy, upgraded to new windows, and removed bloatware, its excellent.

Memory upgradable?
Go to https://www.gatewayusa.com/GWNC31514.html

scroll down to "Search questions and answer" section of the page,

Search keyword "upgrade" and then hit Enter key.

Some others already asked the same question.

The answer is the 4GB of RAM is built-in on motherboard and not upgradable.

If you are a hardware tech guy who can buy RAM chips(not RAM stick) and open the laptop up, solder your own memory chips onto motherboard, then yes, you can upgrade the RAM.
But most of people just dont have the skill/knowledge/tools to perform this type of work.
And in case if you are still confused. No, you can't put a bigger RAM stick into this laptop.

need some advice this one for the one as microcenter for 299. i5 11th generation hdmi. my dell needs battery and charging port they want 214 for fix..it is 5 years old so time for a new puter. I need it to surf internet, banking, emails, doctor visits. many thanks
If you are talking about the Asus VIvobook, I would say go for the Microcenter. I can't tell if it has IPS display (probably not) but it has better spec especially 8GB ram and I5 cpu.

I know people swear you NEED 8gb of RAM minimum to even open up Notepad and perhaps 16gb to run Open Office, I have a Dell with the same exact specs (although with an open RAM slot) and it runs things people do most of the time just fine - Chrome with multiple tabs/windows, Youtube in the background, video streaming etc.

Granted I got the Dell with those specs mostly because I have a 2nd RAM slot AND an open M2 bay, so I'm "future-proofed" in a sense. But if your budget is tight and honestly don't expect you'll stick with the laptop for 2-3+ years, it'll be fine.

Brickseek shows my Walmart had it for $250, but it rang up at $549 and they wouldn't do the price match on their own stuff. It actually is showing up on the website for $348 and I'm still considering it - it seems to have fantastic specs for that price still even if it's not $250, and far more future proofed than the one in this deal.

You should of asked them to use the little price adjustment machine. Some stores only check once a month or periodically the little machine scans barcode and lets them know if it's eligible for mark down

Not all employees will do it, lazy ones. They always have a manager come over with it to make sure nothings being farked up.

But yeah. They need to scan the barcode w that machine it means their store hasn't updated the mark down on it yet

Ie. My store stopped doing it when a lot of inventory got stolen, there was a clearance item that everyone refused to do check with machine, manager came out, scanned it and showed was eligible for price drop.

But told me due to so much missing inventory they are no longer doing routine drops and such as they've already lost ton of profit.

Shitty really

If you are local, really should ask if they can use the price checker machine to see about the price drops.

I'd try a manager. It's being marked down nationally. You're store simply hasn't marked it down using that tool yet

It's not price matching
It's them actually adjusting their prices when they should

Ie. Walmart says clearance this item out, but if employees never check the prices with price checker tool, that store will never clearance it

Which I assume some Walmarts don't need too more affluent areas where produce moves regardless

4gb isn't worth it no matter how cheap unless you want to put Linux on it. Windows just will not run on it. Only buy this if you can upgrade the ram.

That's why you do your best to verify a location has stock and buy in-store, not online. Call me old fashioned but I NEVER call the store to check stock. Between Brickseek and the Wal-Mart app's in-store pickup check, you can be fairly confident that a store has stock before making the trip...The same can't be said about being confident about a store NOT having stock but I'd rather know they have something than know they don't have something. However, calling to check inventory is not only reliant upon trusting a Walmart employee to ACTUALLY check, it's also a surefire way to cause stock to magically disappear from the sales floor by the time you arrive.

Anyway, I'm getting off track. Point is, you buy the product in-store and so long as you're willing to travel to a location that has it listed at a cheaper clearance price, the price match policy in no way applies. You are simply returning it under the Walmart return policy for your original purchase amount and then buying said product for that store's currently listed price.

Just and FYI, I bought and returned the 14.1" Gateway. It had the worst keyboard I have ever tried to use. So if you are a student or plan to use if for business applications, make sure you can work with the keyboard. Good news is Walmart's return policy is great.
Maybe you live in Chicago, I bought one that was returned listed as damaged and the insurance plan for $49. Went home, held down shift and restarted, reloaded Windows (and now to W11) and made it a brand new laptop. Went back and returned the insurance plan.

No clue what students need nowadays (respectfully) or why a business person would be in this market but it's functional.
