Gedore is a German tool company, but they make most of their better products in Austria. If you look at their pliers, many of them look exactly like their Knipex counterpart -- in this case, the 10" Knipex Cobras. These are substantially cheaper, and I think Amazon has the COO wrong. Amazon shows Germany, but I checked KC Tool, and they say Austria. I'm inclined to believe these are most likely made in Austria.

Great deal, Amazon shows only 17 left, and I just ordered a pair, myself.

Oh, and almost forgot to add -- lowest price ever on Amazon, according to the Camel.
  • Gedore 142 10 TL Universal pliers 10", 15 settings
  • Acc. to DIN ISO 8976 Form C
  • With safety box joint and protection against blocking
  • Fine adjustment
  • 142 7 = 17 settings
  • 142 10 = 15 settings
  • 142 12 = 17 settings
  • Single-hand push-button adjustment
  • Long slim jaws
  • Offset gripping faces for self-gripping of nuts and pipes
  • GEDORE special chrome-vanadium steel
  • Induction-rehardened serrated faces
  • Model C = slim handles with forged serrations
  • Model TL = steel-grey, with red (previously blue) dipped handle protectors
  • Model JC = chrome-plated, 2-component handles

You're right about them looking like Knipex. I would be inclined to give them a try for the price.

Just for compairson, there's a deal right now for knipex 7-1/4" cobra's for $28, these are 10" for $24

Red is usually their budget line. Blue is their premium line.

The Gedore "Red" products are often Made in Taiwan and are their budget line. These pliers originally came with the Gedore blue handles, but they changed them to red. This is not Gedore's "Red" budget line, but simply have red handles. I'm guessing, but it seems to me that Gedore was making their pliers look even more like their Knipex counterparts with the new red handles.

I can now absolutely confirm (not that I had much doubt) that these pliers are Made in Austria. Very nice as well. They also performed well (second best to Cobra's) in Project Farms tests.
