I've been seeing a lot of comments complaining about the ssd speed. I'm curious as to how slow it is and what effect does it has on the user?

The average user probably wouldn't notice but the speeds are literally 50% slower when compared to 512 or the m1 air drive speeds

Single channel SSD (1x 256, instead of 2x 128) slows transfer speeds down. Probably won't make your browser launch any slower though. This is a Facebook machine after all.

No heatsink and flat out no thermal solution whatsoever is the big killer. And if you pony up for the 10 core version, the quicker it reaches max temp and the OS throttles itself to prevent overheating. Cut rate design flaws from Apple to penny pinch. Hard pass.

Transferring files from something equally as fast as the only time you'd notice. Most of the time people transfer files from memory cards or to/from a NAS, or over WiFi or the Internet, or a USB backup drive, so it really won't affect many non-pro environment users.

To sum it up, M1 Air 8GB/256GB is a better deal at $879-899. Doesn't have the NAND issue and has better thermals.
