You can switch the way the door opens, it shows you how to do it on the owners manual. It is fairly easy.

This is a single unit. The obvious downside is that you'll have to throw it away if either the washer or dryer becomes unrepairable.

Then again, it might not matter to many.

I found out, from Slickdeals no less, that if you switch to powder detergent the smell is almost nonexistent. I used to always leave the door open a crack, that only helps a little bit. Powder detergent is a game changer.

We have the 5cuft model and it's pretty fantastic. It will remind you to run the tub clean after every 30 loads which consists of putting cleaner in the tray or tub and running the cleaning cycle.

That's it.

If you leave the door open and let it air out after each wash the chances of this decrease significantly. You can also use cleansing tablets periodically that supposedly kill off the bacteria / mildew

you have to clean all washers regularly, that's not particular to front load. just like top-load you should also leave the door open until it's fully dried and remove any debris between loads, and check the drain filter every couple months.
front load is also 1000x easier to deal with if you're short or elderly vs reaching into a canyon top-load

I almost pulled the trigger on the Home Depot/Lowe's sale ($1598) but for an extra $200 got extended warranty, free delivery, setup, and haulaway. all of those were extra with Lowes, so it came to almost the same price, and only 1 year warranty. this is a far better deal with the $300 shop card.

correct model at lowes is $1 cheaper (and out of stock)

My 1986 Whirlpool gas dryer still dries my clothes and I've never replaced any parts. Will this new machine last that long?
