Obviously these will be slow compared to cpus in the past couple years...but the people buying these are buying them for the reliability and build quality in a system used for office or school work. Those are tasks these systems handle well. You also get a MUCH better screen than you would in most modern systems under $500. I recently bought a refurbished Latitude 7490 myself and it was immaculate. The refurbisher had also packed in a new battery. 8-10 hours of run time in a 250 dollar system that can do everything from spreadsheets to video and audio editing with a nice 300 nit screen isn't bad at all. And no flimsy keyboard to deal with.

These will probably last longer than brand new budget consumer laptops. Business grade devices tend to be more durable and repairable.

These are nice units... I picked up a couple with i5-8350u, 16gb RAM and 256Gb SSD for $250 each a couple of weeks ago for my kids to use for school... the units looked nearly new and came with USB-C chargers...

I went ahead and ordered a unit this morning with i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD for $275 and got $40 back using AMEX deal... never hurts to have a spare...

Can get an i5-1.7ghz with 16gb ram and 256gb SSD drive for $351.xx before tax. Is it worth an upgrade for slightly better processor and ram?

Edit: Nevermind decided to go with OPs configuration for $219.xx

128 GB appears out of stock, 256 GB coming up as $246.95
Anyone noticed if they're adding more or that's it for the cheap 128gb ones? This is the best I'm able to find right now

Dell Latitude 7390 Notebook, 13.3-in FHD Touch (1920 x 1080), Webcam, 1x Intel Core i5 Quad (i5-8350U) 1.70 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB HDD, No Optical, Intel Integrated Graphics, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 Professional
$274.45 (after coupon)

Did the amex deal go through? It says "This offer does not apply to refurbished items, systems or spare parts...." under the offer terms.

What Amex deal are you finding that applies to dellrefurbished.com?

This comment could be a bit misleading: While it may handle office work and school work sufficiently, with only 4 cores and 8 threads, it will still lag behind when asked to multitask compared to the more recent CPUs. Also, whatever this machine may be able to handle sufficiently, the recent CPUs will do a better job so it's not like this specific model is more efficient in any way, it is just capable at most.
Screen isn't anything special either, there are many options under 500 that actually offer 120hz.
Lastly, video editing with an internal graphics card from an I5-8520U(Emphasis on the U) is just torture. In that regard, it is just not very capable at all.
The main selling point of Latitude is the durability of the build, not necessarily the quality. It is built like a tank and the battery is significantly larger than other laptops this size, but at the cost of it being very bulky and heavy.

$220 in a 9.1% inflation era that we live in.

Sit down and think about that? Is that like what 10 burritos at Chipotle? This price is insanely cheap.

I purchased two of these last time. Nice Build.
Two Problems. Supposedly history of battery exploding. I will say that leaving them plugged in while using this baby gets hot. I would recharge while not using.
The other problem is one of them has a keyboard problems Mainly the numbers at top sometime don't register unless really firmly depress them (hammer) to register.
Really irritating for log in with a pin.

Looks like all the 7390 are out of stock now? I had it in cart and it just disappeared. I got the next best option 7280 with i7. https://www.dellrefurbished.com/i...000141&p=1 for $247.

Not complaining but just FYI that this i5 processor is over 5 year old and has a benchmark of only 5924 and supports RAM speed of 2400MHz
Added this deal to the cart and applied the coupon - $295.xx. That's before shipping or other junk. The $220 versions seem gone.

I have an Asus 15inch laptop with nearly the same specs. 8G of RAM, identical CPU, 1080p screen. As a laptop, it is really good for anything I do. That includes normal end-user junk, but also running a few VMs/Containers and creating server-side webapps.

I don't use MS-Windows, so perhaps my OS is just so much more efficient that a monster CPU isn't needed? IDK. Haven't seen MSFT stuff since Win7.

The 13.3 screen at 1080p is something I miss from a prior laptop. 15 in is just too large for my needs, but going to 768p means losing 200+ px of resolution, which I cannot have.
When I first got my Asus (also a used model), the battery life was over 8 hrs.

If this was a 10th-gen for $350 with all the other specs, I'd have already bought it - before posting here. The 10th-gen CPUs were a big jump in capability.

BTW, my desktops all run Ryzens with around 20K passmarks, so a 56t00 passmark system really isn't much different in real world uses for 95% of people.

Don't get a laptop without a real GPU if you want to do video editing, but for office and watching netflix, this is 100% fine.

The main reason I'd want a Dell is to get their better keyboards. All other brands seem to have shitty keyboards that wear our far too fast.

I had good luck by email. Bought a used laptop and the ssd was near end of life. They refunded $50 on a $300 laptop.

I have bought two laptopsover the years from them and am very satisfied. E6440 and 5570. The 5570 is my primary work computer and multi tasks well for an old machine. Will buy another newer model next year.
