They're both nearly identical in reliability, after several units owned, tested, and saw them died by me from Galanz and Midea manufacturers. The only benefit found in Black & Decker is it comes with a white LED interior lamp for cooking, instead of a yellow halogen. All Galanz-made 700W and 900W microwaves use the regular, yellow halogen lamp, not LED lamp. 1000W and above may use LED lamp for the expensive models.

Galanz is the first and oldest microwave manufacturer in China and have the most experience in microwave manufacturing for over 30 years now, but most of the brands are for the lower-end market. Midea is a recent-entry manufacturer for microwaves with not much proven history, but it's a diverse corporation and now bigger than Galanz. Midea is usually priced higher than Galanz with more features included, and often better-quality parts used that may last a tiny-bit longer than Galanz.

Also, Galanz packs their microwave in retail-box better than Midea, and it has a higher-chance for safe delivery to your door. The Black & Decker (Midea) microwaves are more likely to get damaged in shipping than Proctor Silex (Galanz), due to Midea's lack of proven history for microwave manufacturing, and wrong packing material quality used. Midea is still learning how to build the greatest microwave oven, while Galanz is already finished with all that research.

The best place to buy a new 700W or 900W microwave (Mainstays, Proctor Silex, and Hamilton Beach) is at Walmart stores. It comes with a 1-year free exchange policy with receipt provided to the store, no questions asked. But at Target, it's only 90-day return policy max, no 1-year exchange policy.

On the Insignias, look at the back of the microwave oven from store-shelf display, and find the FCC-ID code on the specification sticker. If it says "UHW," it's made by Galanz. If it's "VG8," it's made by Midea. If it's "C5F," it's made by Daewoo (now renamed into Winia company).
Great prices. Typical similar microwaves are generally $50+ for 700 watt and $70+ for 1000 watt.
Use promo code "SEPTEMBER" and save 10% more.

FYI, according to Wirecutter, almost all MW are now made by one company and just rebadged with seller's brand. Seems there is little difference in the guts of these low-priced ovens.

Wow... just bought the walmart version of the 1000W yesterday because I was too impatient to wait for a deal (replaced a 40 year old GE microwave that was having problems).

Not worth the hassle to return and buy this one, I've already opened and used it, but this is $25 cheaper if I just waited one more day. Good deal

There's so many bad reviews, but at least they're super cheap to buy.

Nice deal. Tend to replace these every few years since cleaning them is an uphill battle.

I had a Panasonic from 1979 used for 30 years no rust.

Now have 1 Sears and 1 Best buy store brands no rust on either.

Read the reviews for Proctor Silex, they show rust in 12 months. They use lowest grade metal that rusts out fast.
I'll bet you spent a little more than $31 on the Panasonic!

I'm having trouble entering the SEPTEMBER code - it says there's an offer available but there's nowhere to enter the code.
Had to go back a screen from that final checkout screen. In the top right it say's "Promo Code - Add".

Code still works as of a minute ago despite some comments to contrary. $42 even was my total for the 900W Black and Decker one.

Ordered a microwave and a mini fridge for my son for Xmas (he goes to college in the Fall). Great prices, and better power/size than i was originally going to get him.

Used the code twice, as i made two orders after thinking about it and got the fridge too.

poor ratings
Most countertop microwaves in the US are made by Midea, relabeled for different brands. Doubt that these perform any better or worse than other common brands such as Hamilton Beach, Toshiba (yes, really), Black and Decker, GE (yes, really), Whirlpool (yes, really), Sharp (yes, really), Breville, Insignia, and Magic Chef. While it may be shocking, countertop microwaves for most of the well-known brands among those above are a very small component of their business and not worth developing their own supply chains for, thus they simply buy white labeled appliances from Midea to fill out their product lineup as cheaply as possible.
