This is great for baiting without having to hold your rod.

Dock Owners:

If you're fortunate enough to have your own dock, I strongly recommend getting a few of these.. they're amazing at holding the rods for storage, holding onto them while adding a jig or even if you are casting several jigs at once.. with so many fish hanging around docks.

If you're using for storage too, I recommend some sort of velcro or carabiner that you can quickly attach to the rod just in case a bird or something causes it to dismount (never have had that issue). But yeah its really nice to just be able to walk down to the dock, grab pole, fish for 20 minutes, put it back up in under a couple of minutes and walk back without lugging around a pole. Even with very strong Florida storms, I've never had an issue with it falling out.

Even tho I'm a pretty good master baiter, it'd be nice to have this hold my rod.

You could always bring a buddy to hold your rod for you. But noticed this holder comes in black or white, so limitless options.

Is the only difference that the powerlock version has that sliding/rotating plastic lock whereas the version OP posted is one of those rubber pull tabs? Or is there also a difference in how big of a rod or type of rod you can use? The powerlock version just seems easier to deal with.

The power lock version can't really accommodate a spinning setup. You can however force into it and have it sit at a awkward position. The tab version can secure a spinning setup better. Check the video on this version and you will see.

Was it this item and do you like them?

I need to get a few set up for trout pond fishing and a few for boat mounting as well. Tough to judge what would be workable with internet shopping.
