I never see these basses leave the $575 - $650 range for new and I was watching used prices around $525 when I stumbled on this really nice drop this morning and pulled the trigger. Here's a

From the jangle of the Byrds to the psychedelia of Jefferson Airplane to countless other acts, many sounds of the '60s were underpinned by the deep and indispensable sound of the Starfire Bass, and players can now enjoy that rich sound and feel once again.
Guild's new Starfire Bass has it all—the extra-thin semi-hollow body, the elegant double-cutaway design, a single powerful BiSonic pickup, and a great deal more.
The welcome return of a true Guild classic.

I also disagree with short-scale being the best option if you already play guitar. You'll adapt if you play it consistently. It's not going to make much difference. Edit - someone pointed out this is basically a short scale at 30 3/4", so moot point.
I've got an Epiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat, which is similar to this (and the Jack Casady). I like it a lot for classic rock and blues.
Seems to try to do alot but does none of it well
This IS a short scale...
