Your new device will be factory unlocked out of the box, so no SIM restrictions. That could be handy if you travel for longer periods than the free 5GB of roaming data will cover as you can add a local eSIM from that region and use the data from that while still using texting/iMessage (as well as wi-fi calling) on the T-Mobile number for free.
I assume your 13 Pro Max is not on a T-Mobile EIP plan -- if it is, and you're getting promo credits, you should pay it off first. While some have said they are getting multiple promo credits with 2 or more active EIPs on the same number, that's not how it's supposed to work --> if you pay it off, they do keep giving the credits, but if you take a new EIP with a promo credit and have an existing EIP with a promo credit, the new credit is supposed to overwrite the original credit (i.e., can't double dip unless you pay off the first device before the new EIP).
While BestBuy gives a little more up front, their devices automatically lock to the first carrier SIM that is inserted, and sometimes are a bit more complicated to get unlocked since may or may not properly be added to the T-Mobile database (they sell only one device for all carriers, and the iPhones automatically adopt the carrier policy at initial boot).
