I have three of these TVs, it is an excellent TV and any this is a fantastic price.

Never had issues with any of them on random restarts.

The blacks are very good, VERY good, no it will never match OLED but you are also paying sub $2k.

IMO Sony is superior to Samsung and LG.

Purchased this model open box excellent, at Best Buy in May 2022 ($1249) Coming from a 65" LG CX, I would never go back.

The 85" is massive in our media room and the picture quality is superb. Using with a home theater PC and RTX 3080, full 4k120hz Plus VRR looks incredible for gaming.

I've owned a ton of TVs over the years (thanks to Slickdeals addiction and bad financial management), and this one is the one that I get the most jaw dropping compliments on from friends and guests at our house.

Is this TV produce similar black as an OLED TV can?

Surprisingly the X91J, X91CJ (and only these models alone) have the best black level/uniformity of Sony's entire LED lineup so far.

I have this tv. Not oled blacks. Excellent tv every is awesome. Would not recommend if you are picky about black levels in a dark room.
Yeap.....going to wait for the mini led TV coming out that give OLED dark levels. That is the new technology which is also suppose to get rid of DSE which is my main reason to not change tV

Even this brand has some DSE

The problem I have seen with OLED is brightness. The miniled should give both blacks and brightness...

Got the model display from Costco a few months ago. Replaced a 110" projector and this TV is a significant upgrade in image quality and functionality.

I did compare it to other TVs at costco. It's not as vivid or black as OLEDs but it held on it's own plus this is much cheaper. It was better than the other non OLED. Also I do not have to worry about OLED burn ins because we use the tv for gaming.

Edit: there's also added features when connected to a Sony PlayStation 5 like automatically switching to game mode

I own this in my living room, it works pretty great.

Only complaint:
  1. If you have lots of lights in the room this thing loves reflecting stuff it becomes annoying to watch it.
  2. The OS is still 32 bit, not sure how this will affect future upgrades, if you are one of those that will sideload apps like kodi (I know its on Playstore but that thing has been one version behind for almost a half a year now) be aware

As a gamer, I have to say OLED is a no-go for me. Seen way too many instances of HUD elements and menu items burned into the screen to think that's a non-issue.

I think the 2 best tvs to consider are S95B or U8H both are priced well right now. S95B with EPP is 1575 and U8h 850 granted these are both 65"

More general question-- what are people's opinions on 85" TV prices over the next few months? I've been hearing they overproduced panels and that might drive TV prices very low, but does that include 85" panels? I've been waiting for 83" OLED prices to come down some more and am willing to wait a year or two more, but if a non-OLED TV like this X91J is this cheap now, how much lower do we think it and similar models will get this year? I might just have to jump on an upper/mid-range non-OLED if they get even lower this year.
Most likely will be cheaper within the coming weeks. I think everything (stuff coming in from china) has been overproduced that's why we're seeing lower prices for everything besides commodities.

Depends on the projector, just got the LS12000 and I much prefer the projector for movies now

Confirmed, happens when using built-in apps or external HDMI sources. I regret buying this TV.

This model has a very poor viewing angle. Consider your seating arraignment before pulling the trigger.

Its does I have the 70" inch unit and it just random restarts. I've done all software updates and restored back to factory settings... It still just randomly restarts. It sucks especially during movies and sporting events.

Black levels are not issue anymore with mini-led. Have both in house, and can't tell difference btw OLED and Mini-led... Blooming oth is, and that's what separates good mini-led from great mini-led

For movies and dark room I still would prefer the projector overall for theatre-like experience, but unfortunately we do not have very good lighting control so it's not ideal during daytime. Was using a BenQ TK800M. Our usage had been 5% movies 5% series 90% games and watching random stuff. We use the TV more often now since it has the apps for watching stuff. Newer projectors should have them too but wiring had also been a problem between the PS5, audio, and projector. I thought about getting an ultra short throw but sadly my grey projector screen won't work.. We got an adjustable mount so we angle the TV towards the kitchen while eating. We can keep the lights on. Pros/cons between TV and projector. As much as I enjoyed the 110" from the projector, TV was overall better in our case. No more cable hassle and no more fan noise.
