Phenylephrine, the decongestant in this, is absolutely useless. No randomized study has shown it to actually be effective as a decongestant. It remains popular because it is not required to be kept behind the pharmacy desk.
Pseudoephedrine is the primary decongestant available over-the-counter that actually does something to stop your runny nose. You have to get it from behind the counter at a pharmacy with your ID. But we'll worth it imho. It's dirt dirt cheap at Sam's/Costco
Guaifenesin (aka mucinex) is useful for breaking up thick congestion and thins mucus. Works best in conjunction with pseudoephedrine.
As always, I'm not your medical provider and you should consult your own doctor/pharmacist.
