Best quality for the money are the Revo brand NVRs / cameras! Their app is great too.. and tech support https://www.revoamerica.com/
I've previously purchased a Laview syster via SD and that was crap compared to Revo.

I would disagree personally. Especially at night and obviously at zoom.

Sure if you want to see if a person or a car is there. Yea it doesnt matter.

If you want a chance in hell at being able to read a liscense plate etc youll want 8MP+.

I have this setup btw with 6 4k cams and even then it can get blurry trying to see details. Obviously because of the distance. Youre asking a little camera to catch details from my second story soffit like 50ft away+.

I would never suggest anything less imo.

I found TheHookUps older videos to be misleading and problematic, I do believe he's finally talking about DORI in some of his videos, so looking forward to better videos from him. ( I'll check out his video when I get a chance )

WiFi cameras and NVRs are problematic - I would recommend going PoE and save the grief of wifi issues in the longer run.

These last 2-3 years have been bad for decent camera / camera kit deals.

I would try to get a couple of good quality cameras to cover the most important areas first.

A lot depends on your metrics when comparing cameras.

I need some key cameras to perform in low light, and so far that means "0" ( zero ) bang for the buck to me for Reolink in those cases.

For others, perhaps with enough light Reolink does well enough.( imho so far the answer is no )

I mean how much low light do you need??? I guess? Obviously adding a big spotlight would help all cameras, and color night vision cams have thier own light..

But for example its fairly dark out back and i can see idk 60ft easy. Granted youre not making out faces entirely or massive detail in full dark, but i doubt theres much you could do about that outside of spending crazy money..

I agree with the resolution. It's barely different. But this says 3x optical zoom (not digital). That would make them less comparable if the others are not zoom as well. Absolutely didn't click because our Pi-hole blocks the living hell out of things and it's just too much work. Lol.

Optical zoom is great to change the field of view so you can narrow it if needed.

Guess it depends on what you're using it for. I'm using these for a small business indoors only so I dont really need to read a license plate with it. Also, typically the headlights and tail lights are going to cause too much light pollution to read a license plate at night anyway, unless they're really close. Vehicle description is your best bet and you can get those with any cameras.

With the porch lights on I was able to get a few decent screen captures which would do well for ID purposes.

Still imho you should be able to get better results more often, and less blurry under such white light conditions.

Try to see if you can play around with the tuning / parameters of the camera.

Example, you want to tune for stills - not smooth motion. So for example you want a faster "shutter speed"

I was not able to get a good clip for ID purposes with the IR Led version.

It's like guns .. do you buy a Hi-Point or a S&W / Colt / Beretta / SIG / HP ..

Or since you like full auto ..

is a Sten good enough? or do you go M-4 / AK-74 or a M2 ?

Reolink imho is sort of like the Hi-Point of cameras ..

mat2000, can you suggest a comparable camera in the same-ish price range besides the amcrest? The amcrest is 5mp, correct? is there something comparable in the 8mp space?

you mention that it's been a bad market for cams, and what to look for in terms of sensor size, but do you have specific models you can list off so I (we) can get an idea of what's decent?

I wont pretend to be an expert, but i honestly cannot relate. I run these in kids rooms which are completely dark and motion wise, its not even a tiny bit blurry.

As far as outside i couldnt quickly find a movement lol. Maybe tomorrow ill go and jump around to see if i get what your citing.

I mean are we talking zoomed in? Reflective surfaces are troublesome as well
