So far all the Reolink cameras I have seen use more affordable and smaller sensors and do not do well in low light conditions
Very happy with the quality and ease of setup. I would recommend getting one of the 2 way audio cameras with color night vision, the color night vision acts like a flood light (you can turn it off completely, auto, or to come on per a schedule you can setup.), great for areas of your house that are dark, they are very bright...
Very customizable, there's even a buzzer that you can setup to make noise from the dvr when it detects a person (ie ours is setup to make an audible noise when someone is near the front yard).
I have the 2tb dvr with 2 RLC-811A cameras and 1 duo2 180 degree camera, currently get 10 days of 24/7 recording, it is expandable to 6tb internal and 6 tb external via esata. I did have a problem with the duo2 camera spotlights not coming on when person was detected, reolink support responded same day with new firmware update to fix the problem.
Quality is great, can read license plates in daytime 30' away on angle while cars moving 30mph.
PLEASE post your videos here of moving subjects .. I am eagerly looking forward to a good Reolink low light image capture of a moving suspect ..

Both are PoE 4K/8MB with microphone, but RLC-822A is capable of optical zoom if you want to adjust the focal length (zoom in or out to set - not the quickest to do it live, but meant to configure a desirable zoom level and leave it) and higher fps (25 vs 20).
The RLC-822A can also be used stand-alone without the NVR, or with the NVR, or in a hybrid setup to get more control while gaining 24/7 recording [reddit.com].
If you ask mat2000, he would recommend spending 3x more (Hikvision or Dahua OEMs) to get use-able night and low-light shots if security matters to you to see usable details (faces, license plates, etc) as those have larger sensors to capture more light.

You can get an infinitely superior set from Costco, and a far better return policy, for a couple hundred more, but that doesn't have the referral link that nets SD a percentage of every sale, I guess...

I've got access to various resellers of surveillance equipment where I am, @mat2000, and looking at their products, their specs are similar to those of the reolink cams, but they're +$200 or moreso before there is any change in hardware specs.
Brands included are LTS, Pelco, Bosch, Axis, Samsung, Geovision, Vivotek, DW, Ubiquiti, Hikvision, Dahua.
I'm looking at $284 a camera before I see the sensor size change from the 1/2.8 -1/3 range to 1/1.2" in any camera offered.. So, up until $284, I'm getting the same hw as a cheap Reolink 822A. Then, even beyond that, many of the products are still equipped with the smaller sensors. I don't ever really clear the 1/2.8"-1/3" sensor range consistently beyond that. Shouldn't I see some sort of correlational upward trend in terms of sensor size vs. pricing, if the night capture is the top priority/desirability/issue?
Am I missing something?
I'm not trying to attack you or anything, the information is just not clicking for me. Or, is your gripe with them moreso with software, and is that the gauge for pricing on cameras? Or is it with the deceptive marketing tactics?

8MP for low light .. I'd prefer a 1/1.2" sensor .. Hikvision and Dahua has some .. Annke ( Hikvision OEM ) we saw a deal here awhile back ..
8MP used to find 1/1.8" sensor models prior to the supply chain issues ..
now I've seen a lot of 1/2.7" and 1/2.8" sensors in 8MP cameras .. even smaller than the 1/2.5" sensors which were not great for low light
If you need low light performance .. Reolink just does not make any cameras that do well with that, and you can't just add a nicer Hikvision / Dahua OEM to a Reolink NVR ..
If you get a Hikvision or Dahua OEM NVR or use something like Blue Iris you can get 1-2 better low light performing cameras and the other cameras can be more affordable ..
Yes, this is not as simple as just "buying a product" and you're good ..

LTS used to be Hikvision OEM ..
Ubiquiti the cameras aren't the best, but people who like Ubiquiti like the software ..
Lots of brands also have different quality of cameras .. from cheap to expensive .. in general, the advice I was given here on SDs when I started was to look for Hikvision or Dahua OEM IP PoE cameras .. as both of those at the #1 and #2 OEMs of cameras

Honestly, I would prefer we could get great cameras each and every day at the same price Reolink charges ( they do have a great profit margin btw .. selling cheap hardware directly from China with no middlemen .. )
I do not want anyone to over spend their budget.
Prior to the supply chain breakdown we were able to find nice deals .. which were not much more than Reolink kits.
However, the fact remains .. Reolink cameras fail to perform in key areas which many of us need them to perform.
Reolink also is not 100% compatible with other systems .. which makes them problematic .. iirc I mentioned this ..
If a Reolink camera fails to get the image quality that I needed, then that is money I could have spend on getting just one better camera in stead of 2 Reolinks.
If you are really worried about budget, you can find even cheaper cameras .. many coax analog kits cheaper than Reolink .. and you can even add nicer cameras to those kits which are Hivksion OEM or Dahua OEM.

Notice, the Reolink captures an image of a one legged man at night , while the Hikvision ( 8MP 1/2.5" models ) does not .. AND this is a significantly older model Hikvision camera ..
You'll also notice, that the Reolink firmware is cheating the image capture to make the still items look better at the expense of the moving objects.
( they also mess with the fps rate and other settings that you may attempt to tune the camera to keep so that you can get a better image capture .. )
Better? Reolink no, not if you need low light performance .. also Costco better return policy,
Lorex kit you can swap out a camera for a better low light Dahua model ..
Remember what ever you get, bench test it before climbing up ladders and drilling holes .. test the kits that they meet your needs.

Hopefully you've got some time to look more at what you really want to accomplish.
Just like asking "what vehicle do you recommend I buy?" .. the answer is not an easy one without knowing more about what your expectations are, what you want to do, what your budget is ..
Just like now is a really bad time to buy a car .. as the supply chain is still fubar .. same applies to products like security cameras.
In general, my preferred recommendation is for those interested in security cameras to pick at least one good varifocal 4MP 1/1.8" Dahua or Hikvision OEM camera, a good length of good cat5e/6 cable, and a small PoE switch and start playing around with that and seeing what is actually possible and which locations you want coverage.
My old posts here on the Costco kit deals from 2017/2018 have good info, as do the ipcamtalk cliff notes, and various threads there.
As I've mentioned in many threads here, the usual channels to look for cameras are not doing well right now in providing better larger sensor models.
I would look for either Dahua OEM or Hikvision OEM cameras in general .. and then look for a NVR from the same OEM - OR - the VMS software from them running on a PC - OR - VMS on a PC from a 3rd party like Blue Iris ( the preferred option by many at ipcamtalk ) ...
( if you go the PC route, look to get a PoE switch .. )
