This is exactly right. These "GPU warriors" have literally been around for years. Don't listen to them. They always say to wait. If one is available at a price you like when you need it, just get it. Smilie
You're not wrong on the recurring sentiment. I absolutely agree it's been a bad mindset because something new is always around the corner. We've never been in a position like this and neither have the producers. Nothing is like this moment. If they want a card buy it. If they don't need it and can wait 2 months I think they should. Whatever they choose, it will be the right answer to satisfy their primary want.

I am laughing a little bit since we have waited over 2 years for prices to come back to normal, and now we should wait another couple months for the new stuff to come out. Will we ever be able to buy a video card?
We will when AMD/Nvidia and all their partners truly feel the pain that we felt for the past 3-4 years!

Lol but it'd be funny if gamers were able to bully multi-billion dollar companies into a drop in sales/market share Smilie.

Plus it's just hilarious when people get sensitive "Like omgrr, stop saying hold da line. That saying is only for soldiers in the military that's protecting their country!!" ha ya okkk

I agree with you completely re the term "hold the line" being misused. And for additional clarity it does not apply to law enforcement either as the U.S. Capitol cops and the 400 Uvalde cops both ran away from the line like scared little piglets. In both of these circumstances cops ran from danger while being better armed and protected. The "boys in blue" run away from their duty to serve their communities like piss through a sieve. Buy when you make your own best decision.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I'll try to make it simple for people on the fence on holding or buying.
-Looking for a GPU $450 and cheaper? Pick one up now if you see a deal and it's a very specific card you want (brand and model/cooler type). Mid Range cards are low margins so they will hardly see a discount over the months even with miners offloading a lot of their cards on the used markets. If you don't really need a card, then wait. You'll see a discount in the tens or 20s dollar. I recommend the 6700XT at sub $400 and the 3060Ti at MSRP $400. Waiting longer by weeks or months just saves you $20 to $50 which doesn't make sense.

-Looking for a high end card $550 and over? The 6900XT, 3090Ti, 3090, 3080Ti cards are the highest margin cards and manufacturers over supplied these to sell to miners who no longer want to buy them. The price drops will be in the $$ hundreds. You could wait a few weeks to a few months (end of the year) as they'll get further discounts. Mainly because the used market will really hurt high end cards and many lower income gamers don't have that much disposable income to afford these cards. Don't expect mentioned high end cards above to reach sub $500 tagged at face value. The 6900XT could possibly reach sub $600 but it would be the bad branded/cooler versions like Gigabyte, Yeston, etc. The lowest price will likely be achieved by a coupon through a credit card, rebate and some other online store coupon/cash back exploit.

Nvidia launchs with their top cards will not affect current mid range prices and very little effect on the top end cards. The used market will have a better influence but cryptomining didn't crash like the last time in 2017/2018. Miners are not panic selling, they'll offload cards gradually (but will be much more plenty than 2018/2019). AMD's GPU launch of the 7000 series have a better chance of affecting prices more than the Nvidia GPUs. Nvidia will mimic the 20 series launch for the 40 series.

Maybe I'm just too annoyed by inflation but $400 seems like a standard MSRP.

I mean, you could have bought when prices were peak high too. It depends on how much you value your money as opposed to the gratification of getting a GPU.

SlickDealers are generally a frugal bunch so....

Anyhow, the the announcement is pretty imminent, and if you can't wait then buy it. Nobody is stopping you or do you let strangers on SD stop you?

No reason to feel ashamed. We reap what we sow and besides you might get ahead in a few weeks or you may not. You placed your bets. Be proud of it.

If someone wants this card, just buy it. Don't listen to these folks saying to "hold the line," like it's some kind of damn war. This is a great price, and if you need one now, get it. Sure, it could drop by $20 in 3 months or $50 in 6 months. But why in the world would you wait around that long for such a small discount that we don't even know will come?
I doubt anyone is looking for a $20 discount in 3-months or even $50 in 6-months. People are looking for a $100 discount in 2-months, or significant performance uplift as new cards hit the market for similar price.
