Just a guess - last month, a large number of almonds were recalled. Eventually, it turned out the potentially affected almonds were fine:

I have a 40 oz pack of the 'Smokehouse' variety and on close examination the 'Best If Used By Date' et al, (albeit in faint white type) is on the back of the bag, in the middle and about an inch from the bottom edge.

The recall is for the bulk almonds, which are different from the 40 oz. retail product.
I also doubt Amazon and Blue Diamond would risk selling a recalled product.
