Even for very low-quality glass, you wouldn't see a sudden, catastrophic failure caused by objects merely sitting at rest on top of the glass surface. Failure would be preceded by cracking (likely around the support posts) and you would likely have ample time to notice. Even if cracks caused a collapse, it would be around two of the closer-spaced posts, and the monitor would probably slide down onto the table at a slow incline rather than smash directly down onto it from free-fall.

It's rated at 80lbs, I'm guessing with todays flat screen monitors assuming that's what it's used for it's safe. I actually have a coffee table that has had a big old NEC CRT tube monitor for years and it's still holding up.

Thanks OP. Wanted a monitor stand but the posted one is a little too large, but got a great deal on one a size down (25.6 x 11) for a little over $11.

Got this a few weeks ago, it's amazing. Have a 30lb home theater reciever sitting on it and it's doing great.

I've had this for a few years now and its nice - solid and sturdy and attractive
The only drawbacks are that because of the black color anything else that's black (phones, thumb drives etc) can be hard to find when you lay them on top. Dust also shows and needs the wipe down now and then. My display feet often splay out over the edges but its never been unsteady

I put my case on one of these so it doesn't collect so much dust vs being directly on the floor.

Um.. Don't know about that. It's not like a phone where it's compact and supported with electronics underneath. Not saying this stand isn't sturdy but... Let's admit glass is infamous for a catastrophic failure when it shatters.

Maybe you're thinking of tempered glass

yes it is the height of the glass + the height of the legs
height of the glass found in the description of the webpage
height of the legs found in the q/a of the webpage.

website and manual don't have the height. people say the legs extend from 3.25 to 4" (maybe just less than 4", like 3 and 15/16")

Glass is infamous for catastrophic failure when it shatters, true. But it only tends to shatter when impacted by an object with high energy (e.g. baseball through a window, dropping a martini glass on the ground, etc.) An object at rest has no kinetic energy by definition (e = 0.5*mass*velocity*velocity) so I'm not seeing how it would happen.
