I called wellbot to find out if they are the seller. The seller is joyridebikes they are shipped from them.
Watts does not equal MPH, and can not be used for an accurate comparison. There are several different types of hub motors, and the motors can be assembled with different windings.
The controller and battery determine the wattage, not the motor. So calling it a "500 watt motor" is kind of a misnomer. By advertising it as a 500 watt motor, the seller could be saying the motor itself can handle 500W without overheating and burning out. However, most of the time these numbers are made up for marketing purposes. The same motor could be paired with a 10 amp controller and see a max of around 400 Watts or it could have a 15 amp controller and draw around 600 Watts. In my case, I use a 52V battery and 45 amp controller on a motor that was sold as a "1500 watt motor," and it runs 2500 Watts without any issues or need for heatsink/statorade.
