Nope. Wind and cold will eat through this. This is good for maybe 5 minutes outside in cold winter weather. You can get by with this if you always wear thermals, sweatshirts, thick socks, scarfs, beanie, earmuffs, gloves.

Most winter coats will work well as long as you get a good tight fit. I can't speak for this particular one (except that it looks like a Fall jacket), but you're looking for how well insulated the zipper area is, and if you can stop wind from getting in at your waist, zipper and neck. I've tried out multiple name brand coats, like Carhartt's "warmest" and ended up going with a cheap ski jacket that's the warmest I've ever had. It's really all about the fit. When it gets real cold (-10 to 20F) you are going to want an extra layer regardless of what you buy, under like $300.

Actually, I just looked it up, spent $80 on mine last year. It was warm without layers to around 20F, then a thermal undershirt pushed it down to -10, had a few late night walks where it felt like I was indoors the whole way. Here it is if anyone's interested, but I'm going to reiterate your milage is going to vary on coats - it's all about the fit. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H5QH3FG

You own this and speaking through experience? This claims to be omni tech and omni heat, and I have other jackets with those features and they do a good job in the Midwest winter..

Don't own this particular one but I imagine some layering will get the job done..

You can also return for free to a columbia store, including outlet locations which might help some.

Hyperbole. May your jester hat keep you warm this winter.

Can anyone suggest a warmer coat at a decent price? This looks thin and not especially warm.

I'd like a code too, magical code man please smile upon us peasants.

For warmth in cold weather it's about fit and it's also about sewn through areas and insulation thickness. Everywhere the material has a stitch that sews the outside fabric to the inside fabric, you'll have zero insulation which gives you cold spots. Insulation thickness determines warmth as does good fit. Poor fit leads to air pumping and venting of warm air near your body.

However, most people are only outside for short periods before going into a store or heated area. They are not staying outside long periods of time, so they need a coat that doesn't get too hot when they wear it inside. Thus you'll end up with a few coats depending on what your doing and how long your outside vs inside.

Got mine today, and while I have a prior Columbia jacket in M (circa 2013?) this one is far too big for me, especially with hilariously large arms.

Probably going to take another swing at a Small after I confirm Paypal will pay for my return

received mine, at first glance a little disappointed in the "omni heat" coverage which is their silver thermal insulator lining. It only seemed to cover a small area of the jacket around the chest and doesn't extend all the way around the back and the torso area.

also like others commented, size tends to run large. My old Columbia was M but I ordered S this time and the arms length were still somewhat long-ish.
