Also, avoid anywhere around Hollywood that day as well.
Last time a show did a stupid gas promo there were 2 hour long lines just to get out of the neighborhood.
And several accidents because people are stupid.

Why does it feel like a mail-in rebate?

For the movie.. Seems like you get to pick any movie for $3.55...if so go IMAX lol
Also sounds like they may give you a code, but the code will be void if X number of codes have been redeemed.
I would suggest getting the code ASAP and then purchase your ticket ASAP. Know ahead of time what showing you want to see
Small print...
At checkout and while supplies last, enter the promotional code ("Code") to receive one movie ticket at a flat cost of $3.55 (regardless of how much the actual ticket costs or the convenience fee costs) to see any movie at Fandango partner theaters in the US.
Code is void if not redeemed by 9/30/2022 or when the redemption limit for the promotion has been reached, whichever comes first. Only valid for purchase of a movie ticket made at Fandango.com or via the Fandango app and cannot be redeemed directly at any theater box office. If lost or stolen, cannot be replaced. No cash value, except as required by law. Void where prohibited. Not valid with any other offer. While supplies last. Offer valid in U.S. One-time use only. Not for resale; void if sold or exchanged. Limit 1 Code use per person/household. The redemption of the Code is subject to Fandango's Terms and Policies at www.fandango.co

My guess unless you get there at off hours somehow the time waiting in line will exceed the savings.

TOTALLY different than COSTCO.
The last time a studio did that kind of promo here, it was a MESS> it was different as they didn't stage anyone in a parking lot like they are attempting to do here, they just advertised cheap gas and free snacks and it ended up destroying traffic (more than usual) AND having people wait in line for HOURS only to have them run out. A few people even ran out of gas in line.
FWIW promotions like this get the word out but go viral because they go horribly wrong.
NEVER a good look. Even though there is no such thing as bad publicity...
Here's a thought, next time do what Abbot Elementary did. They donated thier Emmy marketing budget (usually mid six figures) to provide school supplies to needy teachers and students. AND THEY WON. So, yeah. This is going to be a shi*tshow.
