Obligatory "these bikes are fine but if you just bump your budget another $500 you can get bike X with better stuff"
Now that that's out of the way I'll say this, the leap from the D5 to the D6 is significant. That D5 is about as low end as you will find on a full squish. Still worth this price though but some would argue that at this price point you may be able to find a better equipped hard tail. Its debatable.

The leap from the D6 to the D7 is less of a jump. The D7 has arguably better suspension with the Rockshox, but I would say the Suntour XCR vs RS Recon are pretty similar. Both are air forks with 120mm travel and 32mm sanctions. That Xfusion rear shock is probably fine. However that 10x vs 11x drivetrain will make the D6 more of a challenge on tough climbs with that 32t chainring and only 46t max on the rear. All said and done the D7 worth the extra $350 in upgrades, but if its a budget breaker, the D6 will be fine for most people dipping their toes into a FS bike, and everything can be upgraded (except the geometry, but different conversation)

The D6 looks to be the sweet spot IMO. Pretty solid spec for the money.

I feel like this is why the obesity crisis in America is so bad...
People used to actually make an effort to propel bikes, skateboards, and scooters.
Now I literally see people on their cell phones while their bike does all the work.

Electric bikes can be fun but there are so many situations where they don't make sense. They are super heavy and I've seen multiple bike baths that prohibit them.

Well this is a mountain bike. In my area, electric MTBs are not allowed on many trails. This would not be a good commuter bike.

That being said, I had a Suntour fork that failed a long time ago on an old Cannondale. I won't bother with their products again.

FYI! D5 is non boost frame. D6 and D7 boost frame. Hope this helps.

You're looking at it wrong. I get the same, if not better workout on my ebike in the same amount of time spent mountain biking, while traveling further than pedal powered. The effort over time can be the same if you're putting in the same effort. You just go faster on flat and uphill on an ebike. On the mountain, it means i get more downhill runs in the same amount of time spent riding.

I got the d7 a few months ago and like it. Putting together wasn't hard.

If you guys are thinking of using these on hardcore trails and don't want to upgrade, get a T series polygon - I got a D7 and realized the travel wasn't enough for the local bike trails -and upgraded the front fork to a Z2 bomber.

What are boost frames? Pros vs cons?

There are always lightly used bikes for steals especially during an economic downturn, if you know what you're looking for...full XTR bikes can be found for under $500

LOL..have seen a few ebikes with overweight/fatties trying to get them up the steep/rocky/root trails. These people get yelled at since they have no experience with trail etiquette or common sense about moving to the side when one wants to pass, moving off the trail when someone is banging down the trail. They NEVER carry a patch kit or pump or tool. Mt bike groups here in California are pushing hard to get these fools off the trails. I support it.

The D6 and D7 have bigger, beefier axles that are bolted to the fork. The D5 has the older style quick release where the axle is situated within the wheel and when placed on the fork, it's aligned and then "tensioned" using a nut and a quick release skewer. Technically speaking, the reason the through axle is better is because 1) the wheel is always perfectly centered within the frame 2) the axle being bolted to the frame makes a more rigid axle with less flex to the front wheel due to the axle being dynamically loaded.

If you're considering getting into mountain biking (I'm not talking about the dirt around your campsite...), Polygon is a great budget option. I went with the Vander T7 (similar in class to the D7 here) about 18 months ago and while I upgraded to a much nicer, eMTB within a few months, it really helped me get started without spending too much money out the gate.

My buddy just replaced his D6 this month after the same amount of time. He was very happy with it, though he did some upgrades to the suspension since he's a big boy.

You'll either buy this and get serious about MTB and upgrade to something a lot more expensive, or you'll end up not enjoying it and selling this, glad that you didn't spend more initially Smilie
