These types of repellents do work but only with little to no wind - if there is even a little wind, you may be better off using mosquito repellent body/clothing sprays

But I agree with your other statement. It even says not to use near food
Why does the size matter when refilling ?

Classified by the EPA as a potential carcinogen.
Metofluthrin, like other pyrethroids, is neurotoxic in rats, rabbits, and dogs.
Per Cananda PMRA, "Metofluthrin is highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates, fish, and bees. But the exposure of these nontarget organisms to metofluthrin is, however, unlikely based on the use pattern."
Personally I would not use this.
You're thinking of a different model.
This uses oil and, for us, we let it run for 20 min before we go outside and it works pretty good.
Like others mentioned, you don't want to be in a windy area.

Also like a previous poster said. If there is a strong wind it will be less effective.
***Edit: who would want to downvote this scientific fact ? The manufacturer?
Metofluthrin, like other pyrethroids, is neurotoxic in rats, rabbits, and dogs; both sexes were equally sensitive to metofluthrin. Clinical signs include tremor (all species), vomiting (dog only), and increased salivation (rats and dogs).
It's worse for cats.
You must assume it's not good for humans, as the risk is not worth the gain

Thank you for the excerpt.
I am not disputing anything you have said but want to see this in perspective.
- Canadian health authorities do not advise against using this product, even imply it is ok to use it.
- is this chemical toxic the same way deet is toxic? More? Less? Many many people use deet as you likely know.
- the question is balancing between health risks and convenience, even health benefits of avoiding mosquitos.
- in a more perfect world I would like to assume that if us gov allowed the sale of this device that it is ok to use it. The gov does not even warm against this device the same way they warn against say smoking cigarettes.
Again thanks for the response.
