There was the same deal posted on 7 Sept, but according to CamelCamelCamel, the price changed for a short time and so that deal had expired. There was also a Costco thread at $1650, but that went OOS. Don't see anything to indicate it was the same price on Amazon for a month, but you could be right.

If you're seriously concerned about it, then just go with a smaller tv. Power usage is pretty good for most modern LCD TVs.
