I picked mine up yesterday, and assembled it today. I made a mistake and damaged the head set cap bolt mount (I won't go into details, but it was my mistake). I mean, I could have played dumb and taken it back to Walmart for an exchange, but that felt unethical to lie so I took it to my local bike shop. I checked it in there for the repair. The guy looked at it and told me what I did wrong but assured me it won't be a labor intensive fix, so I just decided to have them repair it. He asked where I got it, and I told him Walmart. "mind if I ask what you paid?" I said it was about $240 out the door after tax. "You paid too much", he responded matter of factly.

I was honestly kind of taken aback.

The comments here, on Reddit, and on the YouTube reviews I read all seemed to indicate that this is a very good price for a bike like this. Was it just sour grapes from the bike shop guy for not buying the $500 entry-level bike from his shop?
It's got me feeling a little down right now, honestly. I'm not sorry I got it, but I was surprised how that dampened my mood in a hot second.
Dude said that cuz you got it from Walmart. I could have easily bought a $2k Trek Roscoe but the Axum matched the 2021 version in boost spacing and I upgraded the components Trek Roscoe level with a better geometry (they updated it in 2022) for around $500 cheaper before taxes. I had a friend that had a Roscoe laugh at me when he saw it, then I told him the geometry and he never said any trash after that because the Axum is more modern than his Roscoe that he paid $2k for.

This vid shows the value of the Axum: https://youtu.be/dulGMXWrA3s

Guaranteed nothing at the bike shop for $500 will match the Axum.

Just put mine together and both rotors got bent during shipping, anyone else?
Both of mine were also bent. It's an easy fix but also bought the $98 Walmart bike and that came out of the box perfect.

No, seat tubes are all "virtual" sizes with modern MTBs, as the actual top tube tapers down to roughly just above the seat post clamp... M and L are very close there. The difference is in effective top tube, Reach and Stack measurements.

This is a tabulated comparison:

https://geometrygeeks.bike/bike/s...m-dp-2021/

KevCentral also had a video comparing the two, again, the main difference is in the effective top tube and Reach (Reach is the horizontal distance between BB and head-tube, it is kinda tricky to measure accurately without a jig). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWZZFMcYFmE

Unfortunately (?) the barcode on the bike corresponds to the "Large" Axum I've ordered...so they've stopped having two of them? They only have one and is the 420mm top tube? UUUgghhhh.
I think you're right about this being medium sized. Tag in store said Axum DP medium and upc matched black large size online. At least it did have the dropper post installed on floor model. Does yours have dropper post.

Literally same here, except only rear rotor was bent and the $98 one came in perfect. I just returned the $228 one to a local store and reordered online. I did like the bike and I hope the next one will come in undamaged.

I got lucky on a Schwinn Boundary I got at the store - had a few scratches but it was assembled decently. Was able to ride it in the parking lot and only required minor derailleur tuning and aligning of the calipers.

How to determine if the rotors are slightly bent? I can feel the front wheel making slight grinding noise, can that be due to bent rotor?

Just check for clearance in brake caliper with a light. Bend caliper away from where it's rubbing. Some rubbing is ok, the break pads will wear clear lol

Don't feel bad. Surprise is often the reaction for ignorant people in many situations.

So a newbie here to this type of bike, as I was putting it together the stem parts inside the fork all fell out, it's about 5 or 6 parts, any clues how to put it back together?

Nothing wrong with ebikes. They have their place in the marketplace and help people do an activity they enjoy.

Haven't used my car in 5 days using my e-bikes and regular bikes. I'm not even worried about the $3k in car repairs my car needs anymore, it can wait. Cargo e-bike can transport stuff and get me to where I need 90% of the time.

I would still buy this schwinn though and throw an old school heavy paperboy rear rack on, they are quite handy for local runs.

Quite possible the bike shop guy had a stereotype of Walmart bikes in his mind. Or let's say he is just another bike snob.

I don't know much about bike. My very limited experience with communicating with cheap but durable bikes 24 miles a day for 3 years when I was a kid, and occasional casual biking again with cheap bikes together with my kids in the past few years. But I do feel this is a great bike at $230 plus tax with the components it has compared with other bikes at this price range. Hope this makes you feel better.
