Here is another bike on clearance for $98 free s/h (was 398).

Men's 27.5" Decathlon ST100 [walmart.com]

I realize this is not the same level of the original post but good deal for a bike.

LOL at thumbs down. Some people will down anything…

"You've saved $10 with WOWFRESH promo code"

Amex Everyday Bluecash supposedly 3% for online orders, YMMV if this counts for pickup...

In for one. I bought a bike for $20 that needed work yesterday....so that's backburner now LOL.

If you actually slackened your head angle 3 degrees by swapping out the fork, you probably lifted your bottom bracket up pretty high.

I wouldn't recommend that to most people unless that's something your specifically looking for
The BB on the Axum is pretty low, look at my pic

I looked it up and its 310 mm which is really low for a MTB. Not that I have had any issues but raising it is prob a good thing. I've taken it to a bike park and it felt really stable and took some berms without issue.

Just a word of advice that the Schwinn Axum is an all-around bigger bike and a much better fit for someone that's above 6 feet than the Rockrider. I ordered and built both a large ST100 and the Axum, and the ST100 is fairly small for what is claimed to be a large size.

I'm 5'11 and the geometry of the frame makes it feel like a tight fit for me. It felt small. But I'm used to 26 inch wheeled bikes and not 29ers with this newer geometry. On the other hand, the Axum feels slightly big for me and I can only assume that anyone over 6 feet would feel right at home.

Also the amount of bike you are getting for $130 more is just out of this world. Every single part of the ST100 feels like a budget build, the selling price for that one is $150-200 rather than the list price. The red frame is awesome though and it's very smooth and light. The Axum just feels like a different grade of bike. Everything is metal, from the pedals, the brake handles (both plastic on the ST100), the quality of the frame, the paint, it feels like a more expensive bike from the way it rides and it takes bumps, and this is just on the street. I haven't taken it to any trails near me.

Don't get me wrong the ST100 is a sweet bike and it handles well, came out of the box shifting and braking smoothly, but it felt small for me only because the Schwinn is so large and is a bike that I can take on trails right away. The Axum I feel I can throw it down a hill and it is more likely to survive, at the expense of being a bigger bike. (more cumbersome to store in my car and my place w/no garage Wave)

Huh. I don't think saying 800 worth of build on Axum makes any sense. It's decent bike at the price point, I would say out of the box you can feel the flimsiness in pedals and touch points. But it's worth upgrading if you want to go that way.

Ignore the $800 comment, I don't mean to say you should spend $800 to build it up. I was just trying to give some context to the people comparing the ST100 in the other deal with the Axum.

When you say flimsiness I'm not sure to what bike you are comparing it to but it's probably not the ST100, for $130 more if you need a trail bike, are ok with a 29er that is both longer and taller than the ST100, and can fit correctly in the Axum, you are getting way more than that $130 difference. The pedals are metal on the Axum and they are not flimsy, the touch points are what gets criticized the most on the Axum but that is compared to more expensive bikes, at $225, there is nothing you can find that's this quality and that you can take into a trail right away. It just feels very solid. I may eat my words when I take it to a trail but after riding both back and forth I am more than impressed.

I'll comment as well that I measured the standover height to be 31 inches at a minimum on the Axum, the frame tapers up and your parts will be in danger if you are any shorter than that and need to jump off the bike onto your feet. My inseam is 32 inches at 5'11" so by my measurements I barely make the cut off to use this bike. The ST100 large frame has a lot more space for your parts to be safe but the geometry is tighter, but it does ride more relaxed. They're just for different purposes.

I agree that the best thing the ST100 has going for it is the sizes, I have a small on that one on the way for my wife since the medium they had at the store was too big for her. She will never come near the flat trails in Florida that I intend to try so it fits perfect. Two bikes for a bit over 300 to get started. Applause

Perhaps they're build at their price point is my argument. Decathlon is huge in France and parts of Europe. So it's not some Chinese brand slapped by Walmart with some stickers

Not sure, this is the set I bought off of eBay and it was a direct bolt minus adding the washers up front for space.

Lol. That's the same listing I bookmarked.

Thanks, I'm going to order a set.

No argument there. Decathlon is huge all over Europe, and they had stores in California up until recently. They're great value for quality. There's some best in class Btwin and Rockrider models and they have a ton. i've owned a decathlon road bike and they offer lifetime warranty on their frames. Their quechua brand is great. I saw articles of people with the ST100 taking it on cross country trips, loaded with gear. It's a good bike for more casual riding.

Hm, which one is better for 6.0 - L or XL? Both show 6.0 as boundary)
I'd go large/19in. I am also 6ft and made the mistake of choosing XL/21in on my last bicycle. It was fine on paved roads, but very top heavy and hard to control on light off road (especially down hill). The Schwinn in the original post is very tempting and I will probably buy it in large/19in if they don't sell out before I decide.

I partially put together my Axum and will be returning tomorrow.

While it's a lot of bike for the money, the size is too large for me at 5'10 with a 30.5" inseam - and I'm used to riding large sized 29ers - as my main rides are higher-end Specialized 29ers with L sized frames.

And while the Axum has a slack head tube, the rest of the angles and sizing felt off to me.

Most modern MTBs have a much more angled top tube, lower seat stays and shorter seat tube. That gives you a lot of versatility in adjusting your seating position and getting full use out of a dropper.

With the height of the Axum's seat tube, there's no way for me at 5'10 to get full use of a dropper - especially a 150mm one, which is what I prefer on a 29er.

And oddly the bottom bracket on the Axum is very low - especially for a large frame on 2.6" tires. The BB height is quite a bit lower than any of my other bikes including the size small ST100 I bought for my kid, and the 18" Framed Rendal I picked up a couple of months ago.

I really wanted it to work out as it would save me from converting my Framed Rendal to a 1x drivetrain. But alas, the Rendal is a much better fit/geo for me so I'll stick with that.

I do think this a good bike (and a great deal) for taller riders than me. But I don't think anyone who actually wants to ride trails should compromise getting the right size just because of the great price.

Like I mentioned, I have the Axum (atm), Framed Rendal, the Decathlon ST100, and a bunch of Specialized MTBs currently, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
