Previously $699, the new price on these is now $399. B&H and Sweetwater are already sold out. This is a high quality mic, compare with Shure SM7B.

I ordered from
https://vintageking.com/earthwork...microphone. Different vendors have different shipping costs and different return policies. I picked this one because it offers a 30 day return window. Their policy says no restocking fee if you take really good care of it (use scissors to open bags instead of tearing, no scratches etc.) I asked in chat and if you do have to restock they charge 10% (or more if it's really messed up).
The reason I care about return fee: I just bought a Shure SM7B and a Cloudlifter last week. I'm ordering one of these to compare. Unlike the SM7B, you don't need a Cloudlifter with this mic. So you end up saving $150 there. Beyond that, it's personal preference in the high-end mic market.
Comparisons between the two look promising for the ETHOS:

If it's legit then the competitor would have to be either Shure or Rode. I would say if you don't need one right away maybe wait 6 months to see where the dust settles. Otherwise it seems like a good deal to grab one while it's in stock if you want one.

In comparison the the Ethos (a broadcast small-diaphragm condenser), it likely does a better job with room noise but couldn't possibly sound as good. (To the listener, however, the sound difference might not be meaningful.)
Some days, I want my SM7B back, but while I love the deeper podcast voice, there is more of a contrast when I have to use an audio setup that is not my SM7B and the other party notices. So that's why I went with Ethos. I paid $699.
For $399, I might need to replace my M7V and just carry around a small XLR USB amp. WOW, what a price. I'm tempted to stash a bunch and flip on ebay later.
