this thing is new and has a new M1 chip, is fanless and now possibly at an all time low price...
But remember folks, this is technology.
It gets better and cheaper pretty much all the time. If all you're doing is surfing the web, reading, and writing emails, this device is perfect, but most likely so is whatever you have at home right now...perhaps with a battery replacement.
Save that $900 and buy something you could actually use or enjoy (like delicious food).
I almost have a heart attack. Costco, $350 off $899???!
Damn, I thought the price is $549 at Costco
13 macbook pro is horrible design with the stupid touchbar and lousy keyboard design.

Food is only essential and keeps people alive. No one gain anything more by eating delicious food. Spending extra money on so called delicious food is not needed. People in this thread are in need of a computer that has a good deal to do work. It's going to have some productive outcomes and unlimited opportunities . Vice versa, eating only produce…… one thing.
I'd love it if you went to the grocery store and commented that what people really need is a laptop because they already have a cupboard full of food.
Real food goes bad and needs to be replaced if not eaten.
Seriously though, a friend at work just replaced a lightly used 2015 Macbook with a deal on a newer one with the M1 chip. He hardly used his previous laptop and had a difficult time validating his recent purchase even to himself. In the end, he cited getting a "deal" on the newer version....
I may be preaching to the wrong crowd here on SD. Some people really do click on a deal because they've been looking a long time for something they want/need.
But there are others who just like getting a deal. I've been there from time to time.

Whatever floats your boat. Spend your money on what matters to you. What I enjoy may not be what you enjoy.
I get way more enjoyment out of a night out and new flavors than unwrapping a new toy and finding an alternative home for an older toy.
2016s and later Intel Pros were failure-prone crap with soldered storage. The last Mac with upgradeable storage was the 2015.
I'm aware. I held onto my 2012 MBP for the longest time because it had upgradable storage/ram as well as ran really well for it's age. When the 14/16" M1 models came out, I finally upgraded. My 2017 work MBP was hot garbage after about 1.5 years. Upgrading to the 16" M1 was night and day.
It has a fan, I have the same model. It kicked in the other day, could barely hear it. One of the main reasons I didn't go for the MacBook Air was no fan when it was $850.
I have the same questions, I took MBA M1 for $850 - how does the fan helps ? will fanless Air create any problems ?
The fanless model will throttle the processor should it need to in order to not overheat. However, even on my 14" MBP i've yet to get it to fire up the fans to a noticeable speed and i've done video editing, heavily layered photoshop files, etc.

Apple changed the keyboard design from their iffy butterfly keyboard to their tried-and-true magic keyboard for the 2020 model year of laptops. Objectively it is better in terms of reliability and use, but I can see where folks might still have gripes with it (key travel)

The standard SSD being crap with M2 models makes the M1 an even better buy.

Lousy Touch Bar
What's wrong with the keyboard? Isn't it the same one that was on the Air M1 -- I never heard anyone say that had a horrible keyboard.
Unless you do a lot of video editing, no it will not create any problems.
