I feel like I've seen a lot of comments and articles that say stuff like this won't keep the mosquitos away, but I'll take this for the tiki torch fuel and hope for the best. Should be good next time I go to Charlottesville.

If you're willing to wait (or it may be happening now, depending on your local Walmart), Walmart commonly has a ridiculous end of season clearance on their store brand fuel. I got 12 bottles this size last year for $1 each, bamboo torches for $0.50 each, a metal Tiki brand torch for $2,50, concrete and stainless tabletop torches for $2.00 each, etc.

Typical end of season clearance. Time to stock up for next year
Yep. I always stock up from Walmart and Target this time of year.

I buy this to help starting the fire pit at home. Works well.
That is exactly what I use it for- lot safer than lighter fluid.

Wow never caught them that cheap- usually grab them at $3-4 bucks.

Save yourself the money and the weird citrus smell. Buy a backpack sprayer and a gallon of Bifen XT or Talstar (either can be had in the $60 range) and spray your yard (lawn and landscaping) 1x per month from April or May through September and you will barely see any flying insects including mosquitoes. One ounce of Bifenthrin makes 1 gallon of spray. Each gallon treats 1,000 sqft so unless you have a huge yard you will only need a few ounces per application.

yep this stuff doesn't work. at least according to wirecutter

https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutte...dont-work/
Doesn't work for me in central Texas. I work outside in the yard in the evenings and I had this burning next to me—almost right under me. I was pretty much breathing in the smoke and the mosquitoes were still eating me alive. The only thing it really did for me was provide light.

No, this type should not use for the fire pit, it is special Mosquito Repelling medical add-ons to generate more smoke and leftovers than cheaper none- Mosquito Repelling version

You need multiple torches for this to have effect. The wind, being outdoor, etc severely reduces the effectiveness.

If you put torches along the edges of your backyard (assuming small yard) the center would be protected.
Also note if it is windy then the effectiveness is essentially being sent to neighbors yard…

These and the mainstays brand at my local Walmart in Wisconsin were on sale for $3 a piece about a month ago. last fall I got them for $2 a piece. so depending on where you live in the country there may be better deals on this around August to September. In Wisconsin's climate there is no reason to have tiki torches from October to May.

I buy about 10 of these at the end of the season because they are perfect for starting bonfires with brush that I burn up at my cabin

Man I waged a chemical warfare against the skeeters this and the only thing that worked was mixing my own bifenthrin.
The torches looked nice though despite the soot it gives off
AGREE! Soot all over our patio. My wife hated this stuff so I spent more money on better stuff on Amazon. The ingredient used are from i recall something like paint thinner and aome citronela and cedar oils.
Correction mineral oil.
