Make sure you check the serial number for manufacturing date. It will stop working once it reached 10 years. So if it is a clearance item from two years ago, you only get 8 years left.

Brickseek showed the price of $53.55 at local Walmart in NJ. I went down there and their tablet inventory showed 2 in stock. But after speaking with like 5 associates we were not able to locate any. For those who score, solid deal

I honestly wouldn't get these. I have 9 in my home and a couple of them started to give false smoke alarms. It would randomly happen at 2 to 3am in the middle of the night. After it happened the third time, threw it away. Google wouldn't even budge on the one year warranty even though it was less than 2 years old. Buyer beware. Don't buy this shit. At this point, I'm waiting for the others to start doing the same.

On the other hand, I've replaced an old smoke detector that was malfunctioning with a Nest Protect and had no more false alarms. As always, your mileage may vary.

For what it's worth, the Wirecutter still recommends them: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews...smart-smok

Hint: if you have issues with Google's "warranty tool" and the escalation like I did, open a BBB Complaint... it works. It'll put you in touch with the Executive Escalations Team in Mountain View (the tool and online contact goes to third party customer service)... explain to them that they force the firmware updates, and you have no way to reject them, sot hey are responsible as long as they continue to push updates you have no way to control. How do they say they can't warranty something they continue to make changes to?

I had an issue with their firmware bricked a 5 year old thermostat and their exec team replaced it. They know it's their issue. They hire horrible SW devs then they get what they create. Not my issue.

I love these for the motion "nightlight" feature too. Don't need to have a true nightlight in the hallway anymore. Didn't realize they had that function when I bought them. Solid deal if you can find it.
