I found this
Costco was selling these, but be careful and check your system specs. At least 3 members (I was one) received laptops with only 4GB of RAM even though the security-sealed ASUS box label showed it was supposed to be 8GB.

I don't know if you looked but I did, and PassMark scores this at 5214. I would not call that a great R5 processor. I am not saying that is terrible for a Chromebook because I do not know for sure. I just am so used to seeing any R5 I have checked score much better.

I agree it's not latest and greatest current r5 but for the price it's a great Chromebook device

So the big issue with this Ryzen version, is that it throttles down 40% when on battery....correct?

I currently have an Acer 713 which runs great even with 30-40 Chrome tabs. I'd love to grab another Chromebook (as the the Acer battery life has really gotten bad after about 1.5 years of use), but I fear this Asus would really bog down on battery (which is my typical use case) with that many tabs open?

4.5 years comes surprisingly fast. Even 6.5 years. You won't get your money's worth unless you use the heck out of these things, or plan to install Linux or something.

Thanks for looking up those dates. Never again a Chromebook after Google shut me down from using my pristine old one.

Are you saying they won't even continue to let it be used at all after support ends? As in it boots but won't let you open a browser? That sounds illegal. IOS, Android, Windows don't even do that. First time I am hearing anything like that.

This or the Samsung S6 lite tab?

My usage is primarily browsing and may be apps.

You are correct, I was wrong. Somehow I over-reacted when my AUE date came, and was afraid to risk exposure of my valuable Google account, so interpreted this in my mind as being effectively shut down. Searching now, I see that the vulnerabilities are Android apps, extensions, and illegitimate sites, all of which I can remove from use. So thank you for this correction, it put my old Chromebook back into some use.
