When did you have the M1 Air?

The reason I ask is late last year Resolve was updated to run natively on the M1, so if your bad experience was prior to the update, it's possible things have changed.

A couple years ago, Apple moved away from Intel CPUs (i3, i5, i7) and started making their own (M1, now M2). I'm oversimplifying things, but when software runs natively, these systems perform amazingly well, even with 8GB of RAM.

Prior to the shift, and with Windows, it's like we've gotten used to driving around in a truck with the bed full of concrete, towing an RV. We all know that 8 gallons of gas isn't enough to drive 20 miles to the beach and back. But if you take that concrete out of the back and unhook the RV, suddenly 8 gallons of gas is more than enough.

This is really a great deal for a fast reliable laptop that will last years. Yes 16GB would be even better but I would jump on this if I needed it.

Nope. I don't think so on the M1 side.
What you can do is use a program like parallels to run windows in a emulator. It worked well on this macbook pro. I didn't buy the program I used the free trial but I believe it costs $100 for a lifetime pass.

What kind of professional would buy this wannabe "Pro" model with anemic memory. If you just want to look cool, save your money and get an Air and go about web browsing.
This is literally the same price as the M1 Air and has a bigger ssd.

I think 512gb makes a performance difference over 256gb in terms of page swapping for bigger workloads… less back and forth between RAM and disc.

Savings of 500$ for MacBook Pro 2021 M1

You can get the latest MacBook Pro M2 for $1399 with a $150 gift card [apple.com] directly from Apple (until 9/26). This is a decent deal, but definitely not savings of $500.

Can you expand on that? I've never bought a Mac book and was ready to dismiss this over the ram.

Read or watch some of the reviews. Unless youre doing 4k editing on a regular basis, if you are in the >95% normal use cases, 8gb vs 16gb makes no difference. The guy below got his feelings hurt because he actually is in that slim % of people who prob would get significant benefit.

I would say not to approach the ram choice as if it was any non M1/M2 cpu computer. I would never buy a laptop with less than 16 or make a desktop with less than 32gb if it was intel/amd cpu.

I bought this same exact specked computer 2 months ago and it's excellent. Thought the 8Gb ram was going to be a problem, but it hasn't. The larger storage drive really makes a difference and everything is extremely responsive on this M2 MacBook Pro.

By comparison I own a top of the line iMac from 4+ years ago and this base MBP is literally 5x faster in everything if not more. Also on Wi-Fi 6 this is the ONLY device I've used that can surf will over 7-800+ wirelessly.

I was debating using the MacBook Air M2, so glad I bought this model instead. Also the touch-bar is fantastic and hopefully they continue it as it's so creative on how you can use it.

I would honestly rate this computer as Excellent , it's Amazing!
