Trustpilot gives Expedia a 92% BAD rating and a 2% Good rating. The BBB consumer rating is a 1 star with 7,828 complaints closed in last 3 years, 3,853 complaints closed in last 12 months. Book directly with the airline and save yourself a lot of grief.

Most people who use the site and have a good experience will never complain.

But with almost every airline and hotel willing to match third-party pricing, just go straight to the source.

I wouldn't recommend Expedia to my worst enemy.

Not sure what exactly you meant. I visited Costa Rica with family for the very first time this year for a week just before Easter. It was one of the best trips we had. I rented a car and stayed in Airbnb's. Used US issued Visa card pretty much everywhere, including street vendors. No safety or driving or any other issues. I will certainly visit again. Language was the only barrier, but kid's broken school Spanish and patient and slow English helped.

Incorrect. I visited CR earlier in the year with young kids and we felt absolutely safe…even in the non-touristy areas.

Costa Rica is safer than NYC and Chicago.

I visited Costa Rica with significant other for the very first time this year for a week in May. It was one of the best and memorable trips we had. We rented a car and stayed in Airbnb. We did jungle trekking and birding in Monteverde, Santa Elena and night walking tour in Arenal, volcano/geothermal activity (Rincon de la Vieja), waterfalls (La Leona) and beaches along Papagayo Peninsula or Las Catalinas.

I probably won't take advantage of this deal, but for what it's worth my wife and I have booked four vacations in the past three years with Expedia and never had any problems.
