People who claim that this shoe is soft and comfy are objectively wrong, and probably haven't ever tried a shoe with soft cushioning. Here is a google spreadsheet [google.com] of RunRepeat's midsole softness measurements. Lower is softer. As you can see, the softest On shoe is below the median softness, and On literally has the most firm measured running shoe on record. I know this particular style isn't exactly on the spreadsheet, but when everyone says the cloudmonster is On's softest midsole to date, that's not promising.
Additionally, the runningshoegeeks subreddit pretty much universally pans the On brand for running. Just go there and search the term "cloud". Some indifference around the cloudmonster and universally terrible reviews for every other on shoe
If you're on your feet all day, you can just fall for the medical community's hype around Hokas. Personally, I like brands that don't rely 100% on marketing and actually put out a good product. Brands like Saucony, New Balance, and Asics have some of the best tech in 2022, but they're certainly not your tech bro shoes of choice.
Recommendations: Check out Saucony Triumph 19/20, New Balance Fresh Foam More v3/v4, Asics Novablast 2/3 instead.

ON and NB (2E wide) are my most comfortable brand sneakers that feel broken in once I put them on. All other brands, I have superfeet insoles for them. I would recommend sf insoles for your wife @tomeaine
Also note, they don't always version their sneakers, thus if one searches for "cloudstratus". You'll get the current model instead of the on sale classic.

Never had this specific shoe but I highly recommend all On's.
Edit: I should add that I had an order that I placed that has been on delay for a while with no communication. They seem understaffed and if you call their phone # you can't reach anybody. I finally received an e-mail response after a couple weeks which is ridiculously long. Don't be surprised if it takes a while to get your order.
2nd edit: Because of this thread I was reminded to check on my order. I called them and actually reached somebody. Apparently they had a massive outage in the warehouse and back logged but current orders are going out ok.
Update: Someone at the Nordstroms site notes that for wide feet they suggest going up 1/2 size and loosening laces as needed to make a comfortable feel based on their purchase. Good reviews.
