The original, slightly brighter than the M12 and bigger, the second gen which is like 50% brighter and taller and runs on battery or plug, the "rocket light charger" that is like 3x as bright and charges a battery if plugged in, and the "dual pack" which can take 2x M18 batteries and is also over 2x brighter, has 2 different light spreads and is generally tougher and has the one key thing which I think is bluetooth or something to change more settings etc? The original is discontinued, the second version is slightly but not a lot more expensive, the last two are the 400+ dollar lights. That said the M18 rocket light moniker with a couple adjectives about features isn't the cleariest way to tell that there are 3 currently selling M18 rocket lights and why the price spread is so big. As to your original question, the M12 vs the M18 the 12 is lighter and runs on 12v packs, if you have 18v stuff as well there's not a lot of reason not to get the M18 imho, it's not much more expensive, has the same important features, and looks to be a good bit tougher in construction. The M12 isn't bad but it's not the toughest thing ever because in large part it's built light to stick with the M12 line's theme of strong but lighter/smaller tools.

And $99.17 oscillating kit started right before September 5th Milwaukee m12 promotion and still available. No need for time machine.
All other $130/$200 m12 deals still available. No need for time machine.
Many were going for two 6ah batteries when returning Rocket light to get the best deal for two 6ah batteries at $52ea. I was curious why he kept one $70 6ah battery instead of getting two at $52ea.
And that's why I asked my question.
That being said I own this light and it's fantastic for it's size, weight and portability. For working in smaller rooms for painting, working and/or for emergency lighting this light is amazing. I can understand why a professional may want additional lumens for larger inside/outside jobs but for "Johnny DIYer" this is fine (especially when using a 6Ah M12 battery). I personally haven't had a lot of problems getting the M12 batteries in/out of this light but I always use XC batteries with this vs. CP batteries which gives you a lot more surface area to wrap your hand around and pull. I've read that others are putting a little vaseline or non-toxic grease on the battery as well to help with removing the battery. I do agree that the push tabs for the M12 batteries need to be redesigned by Milwaukee to decrease the amount of force it takes to remove batteries in certain tools.
BTW, this deal is also available on the ToolUp site:

Dunno why the OP is linked to the non-hackable "combo deal' version, but if you go to the battery starter kit page and then pick free tool of rocket light it works fine, see link above. Typically even if you add the items from separate pages as long as the SKUs are right the discount will apply in cart anyway.
