You're comparing apples and oranges, no thanks to big reds marketing dept as you mentioned though. There are like 4 M18 "rocket lights":
The original, slightly brighter than the M12 and bigger, the second gen which is like 50% brighter and taller and runs on battery or plug, the "rocket light charger" that is like 3x as bright and charges a battery if plugged in, and the "dual pack" which can take 2x M18 batteries and is also over 2x brighter, has 2 different light spreads and is generally tougher and has the one key thing which I think is bluetooth or something to change more settings etc? The original is discontinued, the second version is slightly but not a lot more expensive, the last two are the 400+ dollar lights. That said the M18 rocket light moniker with a couple adjectives about features isn't the cleariest way to tell that there are 3 currently selling M18 rocket lights and why the price spread is so big. As to your original question, the M12 vs the M18 the 12 is lighter and runs on 12v packs, if you have 18v stuff as well there's not a lot of reason not to get the M18 imho, it's not much more expensive, has the same important features, and looks to be a good bit tougher in construction. The M12 isn't bad but it's not the toughest thing ever because in large part it's built light to stick with the M12 line's theme of strong but lighter/smaller tools.

I can't speak directly to those, but it's bright, and if you're invested in or want to invest in M12 Milwaukee this is a steal, you're paying rock bottom resale prices for brand new from the store merchandise (batteries are typically 10+ dollars an ah or 60 each in this case, light is definitely worth more than 70 and you get a charger too). One of these batteries lasts like 4hr on the high setting which can illuminate a large room. Basically you can do an entire days work somewhere without power with this package. Also a big plus to this particular light, if you can run an extension cord it will run off regular power as well. And no it doesn't charge the battery when plugged in, that always gets asked.

Just got mine today from the deal the other day. Watched review videos and the only complaint seemed to be about getting the battery out to charge it. I said that won't be a problem for me because I have strong hands. Let me tell you something. It sucks!! Getting the battery out is terrible. Both batteries that came with the deal were pretty much dead and needed charging. The first one came out after quite a struggle. The second one I had to take a break and come up and write about my experiences. Whoever thought of this design should have their bells tied to the back of an 18 wheeler.

Yeah, I was surprised as well that 6ah batteries were completely discharged. I was wondering how many month/years those have been in the warehouses to get drained out? Any idea?

Yea I think Milwaukee is clearing old inventory. I didn't check the light but I ordered an oscillating tool deal a few weeks back and I checked the manufacturing date and it was a year old..

Is that the kit with 4ah battery for $100? If so, I bought it too. The 4ah battery was fully charged for a year old.

That's correct. I paid $169 and kept the 6 AH though.

Got my light and it did amazing at a camping trip. Yes the battery is pretty hard to take out but the 6ah batteries did the trick for campaign at least.

May I ask why did you keep one $69 6ah, when you could've bought $200 Rocket kit, then return Rocket light, keep two 6ah for $104.76, which is 52.38 per 6ah battery, instead of paying $69 for one???Confused

Probably because they didn't have a time machine or didn't need two batteries? They were talking about a completely different deal in the past.

big mike, are you WiseLlama2461 personal secretary? Do you know his reason? If not, why are you commenting? If you read our conversation, you would know that we're talking about different deal.
And $99.17 oscillating kit started right before September 5th Milwaukee m12 promotion and still available. No need for time machine.
All other $130/$200 m12 deals still available. No need for time machine.
Many were going for two 6ah batteries when returning Rocket light to get the best deal for two 6ah batteries at $52ea. I was curious why he kept one $70 6ah battery instead of getting two at $52ea.
And that's why I asked my question.

I know people have mentioned that this deal is hackable but that doesn't seem the case anymore (if it ever was). Now this is a true combo deal and the M12 Rocket Light is not a "free tool" add on which allows for the hack.

That being said I own this light and it's fantastic for it's size, weight and portability. For working in smaller rooms for painting, working and/or for emergency lighting this light is amazing. I can understand why a professional may want additional lumens for larger inside/outside jobs but for "Johnny DIYer" this is fine (especially when using a 6Ah M12 battery). I personally haven't had a lot of problems getting the M12 batteries in/out of this light but I always use XC batteries with this vs. CP batteries which gives you a lot more surface area to wrap your hand around and pull. I've read that others are putting a little vaseline or non-toxic grease on the battery as well to help with removing the battery. I do agree that the push tabs for the M12 batteries need to be redesigned by Milwaukee to decrease the amount of force it takes to remove batteries in certain tools.

BTW, this deal is also available on the ToolUp site:

Nope, still hackable.

Interesting... when I place this deal in my cart the combo shows up as one item (i.e. not hackable). Why is it showing up as two separate items in yours?

Dunno why the OP is linked to the non-hackable "combo deal' version, but if you go to the battery starter kit page and then pick free tool of rocket light it works fine, see link above. Typically even if you add the items from separate pages as long as the SKUs are right the discount will apply in cart anyway.

So.. I work on cars. Strictly amateur. I'm always struggling with lighting but I'm looking for something very flexible and bright, but not "light up a warehouse" bright. I might go with an "under the hood" light bar, because my overhead lights always get shadowed by the hood no matter how bright they are.

If you're invested in M12 their underhood looks amazing. I have the cheapo Harbor Freight Braun and it's ok but not spectacular, but it's also like 30-40 bucks. On a budget the M12 Rover line is nice, I have the "service and repair" with the basic magnet back and USB charger, works great with a steel hood vehicle, unfortunately we own all fords with aluminum hoods so that doesn't help, lol. The "mounting" version might have been a better choice but I like how compact the service one is, and it was on a slickdeal so I got it. Dewalt's "flood" stick light is good too (I own Dewalt 20/60 and Milwaukee M12) definitely would like to get one of the underhoods from either brand, but as an amateur as well I'm not ready to lay out that much cash for an underhood specific light. I feel like I spend more time on suspension and brakes anyways. The new version Braun at 70 looks cool, they also have an icon knock off of the snap on one that is like a bar and spotlight as well at around that price. I like the M12 rocket but it's somewhat "spot" light and it's hard to manuver into a good spot for basic car tasks. Works well when you're doing general stuff after dark like cleaning or working on the top of the engine etc though.
