You're comparing apples and oranges, no thanks to big reds marketing dept as you mentioned though. There are like 4 M18 "rocket lights":
The original, slightly brighter than the M12 and bigger, the second gen which is like 50% brighter and taller and runs on battery or plug, the "rocket light charger" that is like 3x as bright and charges a battery if plugged in, and the "dual pack" which can take 2x M18 batteries and is also over 2x brighter, has 2 different light spreads and is generally tougher and has the one key thing which I think is bluetooth or something to change more settings etc? The original is discontinued, the second version is slightly but not a lot more expensive, the last two are the 400+ dollar lights. That said the M18 rocket light moniker with a couple adjectives about features isn't the cleariest way to tell that there are 3 currently selling M18 rocket lights and why the price spread is so big. As to your original question, the M12 vs the M18 the 12 is lighter and runs on 12v packs, if you have 18v stuff as well there's not a lot of reason not to get the M18 imho, it's not much more expensive, has the same important features, and looks to be a good bit tougher in construction. The M12 isn't bad but it's not the toughest thing ever because in large part it's built light to stick with the M12 line's theme of strong but lighter/smaller tools.

I can't speak directly to those, but it's bright, and if you're invested in or want to invest in M12 Milwaukee this is a steal, you're paying rock bottom resale prices for brand new from the store merchandise (batteries are typically 10+ dollars an ah or 60 each in this case, light is definitely worth more than 70 and you get a charger too). One of these batteries lasts like 4hr on the high setting which can illuminate a large room. Basically you can do an entire days work somewhere without power with this package. Also a big plus to this particular light, if you can run an extension cord it will run off regular power as well. And no it doesn't charge the battery when plugged in, that always gets asked.

Just got mine today from the deal the other day. Watched review videos and the only complaint seemed to be about getting the battery out to charge it. I said that won't be a problem for me because I have strong hands. Let me tell you something. It sucks!! Getting the battery out is terrible. Both batteries that came with the deal were pretty much dead and needed charging. The first one came out after quite a struggle. The second one I had to take a break and come up and write about my experiences. Whoever thought of this design should have their bells tied to the back of an 18 wheeler.

This is a good deal given the two 6.0 batteries. I own both this light and the M18 light (one with the non built in battery charger) and they are both fantastic. Yes, they both have different uses but this M12 light is so portable that it's a must own.

I think it deserves to be reposted because it's now back in stock. It was only available for a short time when it was live last time.

I have this light and it gives off a warm to cool light. It's more yellow around 4000K and not white light that's around 5000K.

I use my Ryobi tripod more because its brightness is around 5000K. This deal has no charger but I have a charger already so it wasn't an issue.

Is this better than the costco led work lights that can light up the side of a mountain?

I would also prefer 5000k, but 700 lumens m12 rover is too nice even with their "true light" what ever color it is. I bought two and one rocket light from 5th September deal.

Why purchase the 12V and not the 18V version?

TBH, I think Milwaukee's marketing team is awful; if I can't read the main difference between a $200 light and a $600 light from the description, they aren't doing their jobs well.

Damnit Makita, can't you come out with something like this? I have 9 5ah batteries.

This still seems like a good deal for a work light since it comes with batteries and charger.

I bought this rocket and the M12 Rover a few weeks back when the sales were going on and I ended up keeping the Rover.

Overall it depends on what you're doing with the light, if you're working outdoors or want to illuminate a whole room get the Rocket. I mostly use lights for working on cars on my back, so the Rover with its compact footprint and strong magnet sold me over.

I also wasn't a fan of the rocket design, the height is not really adjustable, it's fully extended, or if you want, not extended at all. Anything in between and the light comes crashing down on you.

Straight up the best all around light you will ever own. I have 3 of them after buying and returning all the large units.
