YouTube has become a racket. They intentionally make it worse so you'll cave into their premium service.

Until YouTube Vanced stops working, I'm going to continue to use it. No ads, and the ability to skip intos, outros, and sponsored segments is ....muah ...*chef's kiss*. Hopefully someone builds a replacement before YouTube breaks it.

For others: first check if your bank (Capital One, Citi, etc) offers a similar service before using a third-party. In the case of Citi, you can create virtual CCs with short expirations and 1$ spending limits. I keep two in Bitwarden: a $5 spending limit card for demos/trials, and a $150 daily limit card for "not a Fortune 500 company" online purchasing (in the event of compromise, the damage is more easily mitigated).

Privacy.com is legit, though.

If you're bad at forgetting to cancel promotions, use https://privacy.com to limit it at the card level. I use it a lot now to prevent "zombie" charges.

Thanks. I ended a 3 month trial a few months ago and was able to get another 3 months with this. I watch way too much you tube and these political ads were driving me crazy. It's nice to have this at least until the mid terms are over.

Friendly reminder that using a mobile adblocker on iOS and viewing YouTube from safari will block ads. Not the same as premium but it's a good way to avoid ads on mobile w/o paying $16/mo.
