This a great price on a very solid beginner diode laser (keep in mind, this is only a 5.5W OUTPUT laser). Don't let that disease you though. For most non-cutting applications (engraving on non-metallic surfaces), this output is fine. You can still cut 3mm plywood and it engraves really well. I have never heard of this site but I know Ortur is expanding and now sells via a lot of channels.

I was just looking at the website. The specs say 36W, 12V 3A. But the product description says 20W. And you say 5.5W. So I'm confused, which is it really 36W/20W/5.5W??? Talk about false and misleading advertising!! Can this cut acrylic? How are your eyes protected? What would be recommended as a cheap reliable equivalent to an Epilog Helix 60W laser cutter? This whatever watt laser sounds flaky at best.

It's probably all of those, in different ways. It's probably a 36 watt power supply unit. The machine probably actually uses about 20 watts input power (which includes motors, motherboard and laser input). The laser is a 5.5 watt output (the "strength" of the beam).
