Are you sure they purchased it with Walmart as the seller or was the seller a third-party on the Walmart site?
I bought this from Walmart last year December similar deal and had the same issue mentioned above. They sent me the wrong item and when I tried to return it the UPC didn't match in their system. A manager had to do an override to do the return for me. They believed me that I purchased it from Walmart because the shipping label was still affixed to the box.
Other people had good luck though and received the right one and brand new I think.

As per the many reviews I read on Walmarts site, they were very clear in the fact Walmart was the seller. A comment was posted after your question essentially confirming what I've read there and wrote here today.
Might be worth the hassle if there was any guarantee you could replicate what the next commenter was able to do.
