I'm a cinephile so I get the trend of bigger and bigger TVs. Thing is, I believe it has gotten out of hand in some respects. 20 years ago when I moved into my current home, I had a "huge" 27" CRT television in my family room. It was on a TV stand and the screen was about 9' away from a love seat and 12' away from the couch on the opposite wall.

About five years later we upgraded to a 42" 720p plasma. That TV felt massive! That was followed by an upgrade to a 55" 4k TV and now we have a 60" LED TV in that same spot. I wouldn't want anything bigger.

Sure, for movies a bigger screen is more immersive, but a lot of content isn't as centered. Live sports in particular becomes a lot less fun to watch when you sit too close to too large a screen. It begins to feel like sitting in the front row at the theater.

TLDR: A 55" TV is perfectly fine for many use cases.

Vizio TVs have nice picture, but the reliability has gone down quite a bit in the last 5-10 years. I wouldn't buy one anymore. Can't just look at brand names anymore and assume that they are good TVs just because of it.

We're close enough to BF that I'm sure there will be a 55" TV for like $200 available online.

It was a very poor attempt at a joke from the movie, "Zoolander." It's when the bad guy, Mugatu (Will Farrell), shows Zoolander a small model of the "Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good" that he's offering to build for him, and Zoolander goes, "What is this?! A center for ants?! It needs to be at least… three times bigger than this!"

That is what I was thinking too. I started with a 27 inch CRT, and got 32 inch LCD. I thought the 32 inch LCD was big.

Then later on I got 40 inch LCD TV. I thought that was better.

Recently, I upgraded to a 55 inch LED, and after living with a 55 inch TV for some time, I think if I go to 65 or bigger, it will be just too big for my space.

So I am going to try to stick with around 50 to 60 inch for right now if I need to replace my TV again. If I can find a great deal on the 65 inch, I might try a 65 inch in my space.

Plus since I use a TV antenna, I am looking for a good deal on an ATSC 3.0 TV still. That is only way that I will get a new TV right now tho.

55" is the biggest that works well for my living room without completely reorganizing the room.
With the smaller bezels than my current 55" I might just be able to get away with a 58" on my corner wall mount.

Given how often 65" & larger are the most frequently on sale, while 55" and smaller less often show up here, especially quality ones. Seems like the manufacturers & stores know most people are buying 55" for living room & 42"-48" for bedrooms.
