The Yen is dropping big time vs the dollar, so your exchange rate should be advantageous.

Why rail pass needs to be bought in advance? Why not just buy it on the spot?
Don't bother with the pre-purchased rail pass, that's not the move anymore (we went about a month ago, this was a suggestion/note from the actual travel agency you'd purchase a JR pass from here in the states)

The yen was bouncing between 73-78 to the dollar while we were there, no reason to pay full USD when you can get like 20-25% (or more) once you land Smilie

Also, exchange ~$1k or so now'ish if you plan on going out, just to lock in the "~25% off the island" discount Wink

Used the balance to cover taxi fare, train tickets and konbini food...worked out extremely well

Just booked for March. After adding the premium package and whatnot, it came out to about 800 ea. Not sad about that

$35-$45 per night gets you great location business hotel. Food is cheap af for U.S. city standard. Just check that exchange rate. Same meal of 2000 yen(decent meal) that was $20 usd in 2019 is now just $14. And trust me you don't need 2000 yen to have high quality and tasty food. Many stuff are less than half of that. Jiro style ramen can be had for like 850 yen for example.

It goes on and on. Japan is among the very best countries in the world for solo budget traveler. You must go.
one other gauge of price - I just checked prices for Tokyo Disneyland: 7900-9400 yen -or $55-$65 US. for a 1 day ticket

WOW. That's cheap.

I am curious to all the Disney characters walking about and speaking in Japanese to the kids. Now you got me thinking about Kingdom Hearts characters talking in Japanese laugh out loud

I booked with my cousin and he actually has free passes to go to Universal Studios, including the one in Osaka. I get to see Super Nintendo World before it's out here in SoCAL!!

I heard they wanted the 3 shots (included booster) with moderna or Pfizer. What if I was the recipient of J&J with their single shot and booster?

Hm....maybe you should get the 2nd booster shot. that would make it three and you would be covered for Omicron.

They are considering the single dose of J&J as two doses so that and a booster would be 3 but I would consider getting the bivalent if you're able to

I did on 2019 for 19 days. Japan is the safest to travel to from what I know. It's the people being just overly courteous. If you get anything stolen, it would probably be from another foreigner. The only thing I didn't like was there were no street signs to tell you what street is what. I relied on my cellphone for directions and getting anywhere. I had google Fi so I didn't need to get an international plan. You can get a mobile hotspot data module to rent for weeks or months. two of the things to prepare for ahead of time is getting a Shinkansen (bullet train) pass from here in USA to redeem the voucher in Japan and the Studio Ghibli Museum. I got one to last a week and used it a 4 days after arriving in Tokyo and went to Kyoto. Stayed there 6 days and left on the 7th day early morning to head to Himeji Castle, then head back to Tokyo the afternoon on the last day of the bullet train pass. Did shopping in Akihabara and Odaiba on the last 5 days of the trip. I might end up doing the same routine again but going to Asakusa and spending an extra day in Shinjuku
What, there are signs everywhere lol.

When you travel solo, it's like you're traveling with EVERYONE who is already there. Go to www.couchsurfing.com [couchsurfing.com] to check out meetups that are occurring... you'll meet locals and other travelers. It's the most fun you can have while traveling.

When you travel WITH someone, you have to focus on them only, and miss the other 99% of people that are all around you.

You need either 3 shots or a COVID negative test 3 days before flight.

Whether flying solo or with friends you're bound to have a good time. There are lots to do from exploring to attractions to all kinds of food just in Tokyo alone.

Also, make sure you check what week is Golden Week in Japan. A lot of places are closed and you'll see that most of everything kind of shuts down.

edit: nvm. it's May 3 to may 5th
