That's not how this works. When you add the promo it only adds it to your account. It doesn't save the promo for you and the base checkout screen is not the checkout screen, it's not till the order is finalized after the next few windows does the order actually go through. During that time before the order is completed, you need to beat other people in applying the promo.

you should have been faster at using the promo or like others, wait back until a few orders are cancelled and the promo becomes available again

You should have seen that the promo was done before the shopper was assigned.

Right after the checkout screen and all the tip/download the app/add more items nonsense, that's when you see the real total.

I've noticed during that window there are quite a few things to be careful of after the order has gone through. You an actually remove items before a shopper is assigned and if the total hits below $100 it might show the promo going through but in the end it recalculates after the shopper is finished and it does not apply

That's not how this works. Your total just needs to hit $100 before it's shopped. You can literally place a $100 order and ask the dasher to refund a $50 item in chat and it will not affect your discount. It's a big loophole but if instacart goes through the logs they can technically find foul play here.

A safer alternative is to deliberately order out of stock items. This one works pretty damn well only risk is for grocery stores with multiple locations, instacart does send shoppers to other stores sometimes. You can't guarantee where they shop at, so stores with few locations like costco it is safe

I know that's how the coupon is supposed to work - as long as you reach the minimum when you place the order, it doesn't matter what the shopped total turns out to be - the coupon should apply. However, this coupon is completely screwed up. I'm trying to nail down why, so I can try to avoid it.

The person of whom I asked the question didn't sound like they tweaked their order at all, so we really need to hear from them what happened. I'll standby for that answer.

I'll tell you this, we slightly modified a $140 order, by adding a $10 item, and removing a $15 item, in that order, and we lost the coupon. We don't have any items with in-store coupons, or excluded items. It cost us 2 hours in screwing around with Instacart CS, and they were clueless. I figured a way around it, but that doesn't mean we won't get screwed when they try to shop it.

Whomever programmed this coupon really messed up. CS did confirm they are getting a ton of calls about it.

Mine is for Sprouts Farmers Market. Wish it was Sam's since prices are much better there than Sprouts.

That's not the way these coupons typically work. Instacart wants you to edit your cart up until it's shopped - just don't go below the minimum order threshold.

Imagine, if just adding a bag of potatoes to an existing grocery order voided these coupons?!! Well, it did for us - no joke. It's one reason why I think so many coupons are being lost. Don't edit your carts, folks, or you might end up screwed.

FYI, even adding a replacement item, alternate backup item, with no change to anything else, caused a loss of a coupon. This is a massive screwup by Instacart. Their phones are no doubt ringing off the hook.

I never do replacement items. My opinion is any out of stock item is always a positive thing as it increases the percentage discount you get.

We are just shopping, not trying to maximize it. I get what you're saying, but we actually want the item (or the backup). If they are in fact enforcing the minimum $100 at checkout, which would be going against their previous policy on coupons, you definitely want backups. But, in this case, they'll possibly cancel your coupon on the front end, if you edit the order, or on the backend when your shopped total doesn't meet their criteria. Hopefully the other poster will come back and give us more details.

Thanks to this topic, I checked all my Instacart's offers and got one for Lowes 40% off $35+ w/max discount of $50. Ordered a bunch of top soil and sand for my garden (25 bags total) and they were just delivered. Prices on Instacart is 21cents more for the top soil (20 bags) and 31cents more for the sand (5 bags.) Each of the bag weigh 40 & 44 lbs. After tips, I saved about $20 w/free delivery so I'm good.

First time using Instacart and was really surprise I can order heavy stuff and have them delivered within a couple of hours. Lowes would have charged me $80something to have these bags deliver tomorrow, not within a couple of hours.

I'm sold using Instacart now knowing I can order anything heavy up to 50lbs to deliver to my door. Smilie
