Very nice price! I feel lucky that this is not $1000+. That being said, I would not leave my Garmin until Apple supports body battery, recovery metrics and at least a week long battery life. I don't need to type on my wrist. For that, I got my phone.

Still don't see why Garmin gets brought up into conversations. Comparable Garmin watches are 2x this price of this.

What is the definition of comparable Garmin watches? There is none. Apple watch and Garmin watches are two different segments altogether. If you want shiny, buy Apple watch. If you are an actual Athlete, or do hard enough exercise, or aspire to be an athlete someday, Apple watch is useless. And if you want apps and good notifications, Garmin is useless, particularly on an iPhone where only Apple watch can customize what notification you receive (Apple limitations. Garmin notification customizations work fine on Android).

Are these sold via Costco or the Kiosk Operator Wireless Advocates?

Are they unlocked, or must you upgrade through your Carrier?

The entire point of this is to leave your phone behind. The way Garmin gets to the week long battery life is by disabling or not including a lot of the features that this has by default. While Garmin's devices are great, they were not always great, especially their first models. Having that week long battery requires sacrificing a lot of what this device does. Look at the fine print on Garmin's website for their devices. When you have mor than the basic features of their devices, the battery life can dwindle down to 10 hours-including the solar powered models. If you don't need/want the other features this device offers, then this device is not for you.

Recovery metrics exist already

From Googke

"An ultramarathon is any race longer than 42 kilometers. Races can range anywhere from 50 to over 4,000 kilometers. But one of the more common lengths covers about 100 kilometers and takes, on average, 17 hours to finish"

And from Apple leaning website https://9to5mac.com/2020/01/13/ap...-marathon/

"Apple Watch Series 5 probably actually used less than 45% during the half marathon too. I turned cellular back on shortly after crossing the finish line, but I didn't check battery life for another 30 minutes until I was back with my iPhone."

Sounds more like a marathon, than ultra marathon. But yes, it is possible your friend is still happy. Typically those who are fully bought into Apple ecosystem (I am quite knee deep in their ecosystem myself and typing this from an M1 iPad 12.9), if the watch dies in the middle of the ultra marathon, they would blame themselves that they must have worn it wrong Smilie

P.S. I am not an ultra marathoner but I train almost everyday 2.5 hours. I do know a colleague who is very serious ultra marathoner. He uses a Garmin Fenix (not sure the model number) during training/running but still uses his Apple watch during work day.

Sorry my intention was not to claim you don't know. I was merely pointing out that battery life on Apple watch is not suitable for ultra marathon. On hindsight, I think that's really good. If you have to worry about running out of your beloved watch battery during an ultra marathon, that would surely distract you from all the pain you have to endure! It's like a tonic to take your mind off Smilie

P.S. These are all lighthearted comments. I am in jolly joking mode. I am happy that some people likes Apple watch while others like Garmin. And I hope things stay that way. Any monopoly is bad and Apple has enough monopoly.
