Sounds more like a marathon, than ultra marathon. But yes, it is possible your friend is still happy. Typically those who are fully bought into Apple ecosystem (I am quite knee deep in their ecosystem myself and typing this from an M1 iPad 12.9), if the watch dies in the middle of the ultra marathon, they would blame themselves that they must have worn it wrong
P.S. I am not an ultra marathoner but I train almost everyday 2.5 hours. I do know a colleague who is very serious ultra marathoner. He uses a Garmin Fenix (not sure the model number) during training/running but still uses his Apple watch during work day.

P.S. These are all lighthearted comments. I am in jolly joking mode. I am happy that some people likes Apple watch while others like Garmin. And I hope things stay that way. Any monopoly is bad and Apple has enough monopoly.
