They work. I'm using a single 20' strip to heat up a 14' x 42" round above ground pool and it did pretty good, highest temp was 92 degrees. My buddy is using 2 strips to heat his 18" x 48" pool and he loves it. Make sure you drain or blow out the water with an air compressor when season is over or else you will be buying another set next year .

The increased evaporation means more refilling with (presumably cool) water needed. Hmmm.
If you want your pool warm, the first thing you should do is install a cover which does stop the vast majority of evaporation in a pool and is a major cause of temperature drop.
I use three of these with a solar cover for my 18' pool in MA. They work great. I started with 2 and added the third a year later. Keeps my pool 80°-95° all season long. I paid $58-$78 for them as Amazon Wearhouse deals three years ago. Best price lately was $105.
Most folks don't think about it but these work really well for pre-heating the water that goes into your water heater. Water coming from the city on average is about 44 degrees. Most water heaters are set at 105-120. If you plumb this in and use it during the sunny time of the year it will raise the water temp in your water heater by a considerable amount. Thus giving you a shorter time for the water heater to get the water to shower temp.
Pretty simple system even though it may sound complicated.
For those concerned about the city water running through this and being used inside it does not a PVC heat exchanger is used to keep the systems separated. If you live in a cold freezing climate part of the year you can use antifreeze mix in the blankets side to keep it from freezing.
Works well for us and reduces our electric bill by about 30 percent over all
At his price its a great deal. I think I paid over 500.00 for the blankets on our house now. I am going to order to and try them at the cabin.
Thanks OP.

Our heat pump water heater actually uses less than $90 a year to operate in the Midwest (lower energy costs) for 3 people (tracked for 3 years now). It has it's own programmable thermostat that we set to do 90% of the heating during solar hours, so for us the cost is much less than that and it's the cheapest battery you can buy. Preheating the water would be even better, but wouldn't be a year round solution. Yes, the heat pump does pull heat from the house in the winter, but also removes heat during the summer and we live in a balanced degree days part of the country unlike MA. Over 80% of our annual net electricity comes from solar with a self-installed system. We got a second Rheem platinum hybrid water heater for $400 after utility rebates that I will hookup for more storage capacity and for looping into a solar heated hot tub with a heat exchanger in the coming months.

Some people use a similar setup for ALL of their hot water - usually roof mounted, you can get simpler and use a bunch of small pipes painted back. Probably not what most people would do since it's unsightly and you only get hot water when it's sunny, but probably a good option for remote places where energy is tight.

Any further info on how to install or any videos? ( I am in AZ with plenty of Sun year around).
